CALTHOLICS CAN BE FUNNY!
*Big Giver
One Sunday a teenager was in church. When the collection plate was passed around, he pulled a dollar bill from his pocket and dropped it in.
Just at that moment the person behind him tapped him on his shoulder and handed him a $20..00 bill. Secretly admiring the man's generosity, the boy placed the $20.00 in the plate and passed it on. Then the boy felt another tap from behind and heard a whisper:
"Son that was your $20.00 bill that fell out of your own pocket.

07.06.08 – Good morning. Thank you for joining me on the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Today’s scripture’ readings centers on casting away things and thoughts that separate us from coming to the Father. Things and thoughts that are of the flesh and which hungers for this world and is the cause of man’s failings, despair and eventual lost of faith. Jesus wants us to cast away all that interferes or stops us from seeing and grasping the hand of promise and hope that is His.
The above is Lifestyle of the Flesh and Spirit, album cover from C.L Ryderz' Audio CD released in 2005. I selected it because it emhazies today's second scripture reading, Romans 8:9, 11-13. I do not know much about this singer group . Only that they are said to be a cross between rap/gospel, and that they minister to the "churchless". C. L . Ryderz record under their own label.

06.15.08 – Thanks you for joining me on this Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time. In today Gospel, Matthew 9:36—10:8, Jesus speaks to his twelve disciples before sending them out to gather the lost followers of Israel. We learn that He tells the disciples the go out among the sons Israel and cures them of their sicknesses, work miracles to raise their dead and rid them of their daemons. Jesus also instructs his twelve to preach of the coming His new kingdom in heaven.
Like the twelve disciples, Jesus needs us to be gatherers men also. He needs us to help the lost, the lowly, and sick of his flock and bring help bring to them to true knowledge of His teachings and commandments. This can entails gilding them to places of safety for a plate of food, some clothing, a place of shelter, while seeking much needed employment.
The resources are out for more information on how you can help someone in need contact Catholic Charities.

06.01.08 - Welcome to this Ninth Sunday of Ordinary Time. Today’s Gospel in Matthew 7:21-27 speaks of living one life with false ideas and false beliefs. Jesus compares the lack of faith to a foolish man building his house unstable soil to a man of wisdom who will only build his house on solid foundation. At one time or another, we in our faith are like those two houses. The strength of our faith at any given time or moment is reflected in how we treat our family, friends, neighbors, and our community as a whole. Nevertheless, Jesus is stating we must strive to be stable in our faith and to continue to seek guidance through His teachings.

05.29.08 - Welcome and thank you for joining me. I don’t usually post during midweek, but I wanted to share a song with you. I heard it first on Spirit FM 90.5, and each time was played, I would clapped my hands, stomped my feet, and generally hum or sing along.
Yet, my most memorable moment with this song is when I heard it sang during a FAST rally. I was absolutely awed by its power to get some 2000 plus representatives from the Catholics, the Protestants, and the Jewish religions up and singing along. It was an impressive show of unity.
But I have said enough. So, I give you "Washed by the Water" by Needtobreath. I believe as the song’s popularity rises, it will go down in music history as one of their most inspiring.

05.25.08 - Thank you for joining me on this day of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. The drawing about is what I believe to be a truly beautiful attempt by the unknown artist to express the purity and spirituality of Jesus in this portrait. In doing so the artist revealed the purity of his/her own soul. Although this portrait entitled, "Jesus Christ", is on a poster card, it reflects the true spirit of Christian belief. Another pleasing aspect of the drawing is the illusion that Jesus’ eyes might be open. They aren’t but they have a depth of shadowing that is alluding. All Posters.
P. S. I am late with today's weekly update because I accidently hit the system reset button on my computer. Any IT tech can tell you about the amount of time it takes to restore all files and programs that did not come with the computer but were deleted during the reset. However, and luckly for me, I had all that I needed to restore everything. Although my computer is runs better now, but I would not recommend that anyone hit their system reset button needlessly.

05.11.08 – Good morning. Today we celebrate Pentecost Sunday. This Sunday marks the day the Christ made he appearance to the disciples. For the disciples the appearance of Christ in their locked room was one of surprise, doubt, and final acceptance that He who had entered without force and bore the wounds of the crucified was no other but the Risen Christ.
“Christ came and stood in their midst
and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

04.20.08 - Hello and welcome to this Fifth Sunday of Easter. Today' s Gospel is John 14:1-12. In it, Jesus speaks of preparing the way for the faithful to follow Him into Heaven and that to know and have faith in Him is to possess the same knowledge and faith in the Father (God). He also proclaims that in true faith there is no room for doubt.

04.13.08 - Good afternoon, and thank you for joining me for this Fourth Sunday of Easter. Today Gospel, John 10:1-10, tell us that the only way to heaven is through Jesus Himself. Jesus is the narrow gate in whom path us attempt to follow each day of our Christian lives. There is no other path to heaven except through a life in Christ. Those others may take the wider roads like thieves and robbers; they are those who “climbs over elsewhere” in the attempt to reach their goals. Yet, they fail to do so because Jesus, the gatekeeper, awaits all who seek entry on judgment day. The roads of the thieves and robbers are too broad and break off into too many perilous paths. Only in Jesus, will we find true redemption and only in true repentant of the heart will we pass through the gate of heaven.

03.30.08 – Welcome to this Second Sunday of Easter, which to us Catholics is also called the Divine Mercy Sunday. In today Gospel, John 20:19-31, we learned that Jesus has made a surprise visit to the apostles in an upper room. The apostles have securely locked themselves in the upper room for fear of discovery by the Roman soldiers who are looking for them and others they believe to be involved with the newly form Christian movement of Jesus.
The apostles are clearly stoned by Jesus and while many of them are reassured that it is the risen Christ, Thomas the doubter must touch Jesus and his wounds before he believes.
The second gathering of FAST is Monday, April 7, 2008. Those wanting to carpool from Blessed Trinity Catholic church must be at the parking lot no later than 5:30 PM. For more details, call the parish at 727-867-3663.

03.24.08 – There are times when man must admit that technology is a crutch, and when computers bog down seemly without reason life appears to be on standby, until the solution to bogging is found. And so, dear readers, this was the case with me and my inferno machine this weekend. However, I have prevailed, and I beg your forgiveness for the tardiness of this Easter Sunday's entries.

These reading transverse the Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem on an donkey, the betrayal and death of Judas Iscariot, the denials of Peter, Jesus’ arrest, trial and the bloody lashing under the commands of Pontius Pilate, the mocking by Herod and Pilates’ soldiers, and finally the crucifixion of Jesus and the securing of his tomb.

03.09.08 - Good morning and thank you for joining me on this Fifth Sunday of Lent.
In today’s gospel we are reintroduces to Lazarus from the village Bethany. As we follow the story, we learn that Mary and her sister Martha, who are also the sisters of Lazarus, have sent for Jesus to save their dying brother. The sisters wish for Jesus to hurry because they fear their brother’s death is very near.
Jesus, who is teaching elsewhere, remains where he is, and appears to give little thought to the ailing Lazarus. Finally, and after two days are up, Jesus and the disciples travelling with his head for Judea. The disciples warn Jesus that the Jews still wants to have his stoned, but Jesus has turn his attention to the pleads of Mary and sister Martha to come and heal Lazarus.
When Jesus and his disciples arrive, in Judea, they find the weeping sisters and others of Lazarus’ family and friends gather at a tomb. This tomb Jesus soon learns alones to Lazarus. Martha tells Jesus that Lazarus died four days ago and that if he, Jesus, had come sooner he might still be alive and that she knows that whatever Jesus asks of god it will be granted to him.
Jesus seeing the faith that Martha has, tells her to be calm that Lazarus will live and he ask of the people gather to remove the stone from in front of Lazarus tomb. There is some protect about opening the tomb of a dead man, but Jesus ins that the stone and removed and assures those gathered that all is well.
After the stone is removed from the tomb, Jesus called in Lazarus to awaken and removed his funeral garb and come out of the tomb for he shall live. When Lazarus does as Jesus commands, the people are awed and amazed and know that Jesus is who he said he is.
“I am the resurrection and the life;
whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live,
and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.
Gospel of John 1:25-26
This story of Lazarus is one of simple faith. Martha from her previous meeting with Jesus at her home, knows that Jesus is who he says he is and that although, Lazarus had left this world, Jesus has only to say the word and her brother will return to her and Mary, alive and whole.
This Lazarus resurrection was neither a test of Jesus abilities as a savior nor a test Martha’s faith. Martha faith was strong, and she simply acted on the known truth of who Jesus really was back then.
The faith that ran through Martha to believe in him is all that Jesus asks from us as Christians today.

Beginning this Monday, march 10, 2008, I and about 40 other members of Blessed Trinity church act as representatives of our parish in the FAST (Faith, and Action for Strength Together). As representatives, we along with members from other Catholic Parishes, Protestant and Jewish congregations will participate in a rally at the Bethel Community Church on 54th Avenue South across from Albertson’s.
The mission of FAST is to engage people of diverse faiths in a process of listening, education, action, and reflection on order to address the community issues in Pinellas County more powerfully. As members of FAST, we will act as agents of change, calling for a “renewed” community by holding public systems accountable to improve the quality of life for all in Pinellas County.

03.01.08 - Welcome friend to “A Catholic’s Life” homepage and this Fourth Sunday of Lent.
Although, I created this site back in September of 2007, this is my second year and third site in posting the Lenten and soon the Easter Seasons scriptures with visual illustrations and original art from both centuries’ old artists and today’s modern artists. Developing this site has been a labor of love, which had deepen my faith and my understanding in how being a Christian and following Jesus commandments can and has effected my daily life. Not a day goes by when some part of my day is not devoted Jesus and his teachings.
Whether, it be reading the daily scriptures, listening to Spirit FM 90.5 radio, watching a Christian program on EWTN television, conversing with Christians friends around the globe or attending a Sunday Mass and singing in the choir, my life is centered around what is sacred. I think upon Jesus, his life, his death, and how what he taught those first apostles has a significant baring on my life today. I believe that if not for my faith some of situations that arise in my life would be unbearable if not the Jesus teachings, the many scriptures, psalm, and bible stories, which guide me and tell me that I am not alone and this or that problems is not new and that other fitful has survived similar. Even though every aspect of my life is not as should be or I wish it to be, yet each day I find hope in knowing Jesus is a part of me and I am a part of him.

02.010.08 - Good morning, and welcome to “A Catholic’s Life.” Today marks the First Sunday of Lent 2008. It is the time where we Catholics reaffirm our faith in Our Lord God, Jesus Christ by refraining from sin or for those of us without sin some item precious to us for the duration of this season.

02.09.08
02.03.08 - Hello and welcome to the week’s presentation of the “Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time.” This week’s mass is the last before the start on our 2008’s Lent season, which for all Catholics is a time reconciliation of our faith with Ash Wednesday to following in the weeks to come as well as the Passion of our Lord. Lent means the giving up of old ways and old habits for new. This might also mean temporarily giving up the use of some material thing important to us or refraining from consuming of a favorite dish of food as a way of showing repentant and renewal of us faith. However, we decide to show this renewal our trust in our faith, Lent is also the season for reflection; and for some of us, it is a season of repentant of some regretful deeds. Lent is the realization that though we might feel that we do not always succeed, we cling to and to profess our faith and continue to be good disciples.
Below is Saint Francis' prayer, which is normally prayed before the cross.
Most High glorious God,
enlighten the darkness
of my heart.
Give me right faith,
sure hope
and perfect charity.
Fill me with understanding
and knowledge that I may fulfill
your command.

01.27.08 -Hello and welcome to the week’s presentation of the “ Third Sunday in Ordinary Time.” In this week’s mass we celebrate Jesus selection of Simon and Andrews , the fishermen as his disciples. HE said to them back then “Come, follower me”, and without fully understanding the man (our Lord), and without knowing what the future would hold for them the two men followed HIM. Could we as Christian today say that we could do the same if Jesus were here? Yet, HE does already. Each and everyday, in our mass, our personal relationship, and in our daily walks through life with people we encounter Jesus asks that we follow Him by example and by reflection of our Christian faith in HIM. Moreover, in answer and though at time it seems a hard task, we follow.
Today I have added a new link that depicts the African perspective of Christianity as well as the ministry and life of Our Lord Jesus, Christ through their artwork. You can view this art at Jesus Mafa.

Welcome to the beginning of our Ordinary Time we have been compelled to take down and put away for another years all Christmas decoration and to start our preparation for this year’s coming Lent season. Below I often you a little importuned poem that introduces today’s mass.
Behold the Lord
I am not He, but I preach him reign,
And though I am scorned and branded insane,
I cry - repent! Receive His grace! 'Cause the Kingdom
of God is near! Holy, holy, holy the true King
and Messiah is here. He, the Lamb, the Living Sacrifice
walks across this dessert plane.

This morning marks the first Sunday in Advent, and the time when all Catholics set out their Advent wreaths and light the first of four candles. As with last year Advent's season, I will post artwork that reflects this new holy season. I hope enjoy it and the upcoming holidays as well.
Today's First Reading - Isaiah 2:1-5 speaks of casting away our old selves and our sins and clocking ourselves in Jesus' ways. The reading also speaks of remolding weapons of war (items that bring death) into productive instruments useful in farming (items that used for the continuation of life).
This link Beat swords into plowshares explains why turning from our destructive lifestyles and just how the verse have become a common saying in everyday language.

I have also added a special section to honor St. Nicholas whose feast day is this Thursday, December 6th. St. Nicholas was a Catholic Bishop in Myra and is the man most identified as the "Real Santa Claus". He is also is the patron saint and protector of children, hospitals, and hospices. For more St. Nicholas check out the pdf entitled, "Who Is Saint Nicholas?"
