Catholics' Can Be Funny!

Praying Before Meals

Our three-year-old grandson, Daniel, stayed with us while his parents went on a weekend trip. As usual, we bowed our heads as my husband prayed out loud before all our meals. Daniel watched curiously each time his grandpa prayed.

On the day his parents came to pick him up, we all sat down at the table to have lunch. Just as his daddy started to pick up his sandwich, Daniel shouted, "Wait, Daddy, we can't eat 'til Grandpa reads his plate

Help Friar Jack’s Ministry

Hi! I’m the new publisher at St. Anthony Messenger Press. Part of my job is to help be sure there are finances for our many wonderful ministries, including Friar Jack’s E-spirations. Back in 2000, Father Jack Wintz, O.F.M., couldn’t resist the opportunity to reach out to you personally every month. In the years since, we’ve all come to depend on Friar Jack (with help from Friar Jim Van Vurst) to give us a little boost every few weeks via the e-newsletter. It’s just one of many ways that we evangelize through the Web.
As we move into the Easter season, we are grateful for the many thousands of people who use our e-newsletters and various Web sites to grow their faith and even to share their faith. For example, we hope you will enjoy Lenten Radio Retreat, hosted by several talented bishops, to inspire you each week during this holy season. Listen to it online at FranciscanRadio.org or offline as a podcast. In the past year, we provided a steady stream of new e-greetings, and many thousands of you have enjoyed sending them to one another. To better serve parish Web sites, we now offer a webmasters’ blog on our WebCatholic.org site. We have been privileged to feature excerpts from Pope Benedict XVI’s new book, Jesus of Nazareth, on our Web site. Also, we’re featuring Mother Teresa’s newly published personal writings in our Catholic Update section of AmericanCatholic.org.
In 2008, look for a restaging of the CatholicGreetings.org site to add new features and even more designs! Also in 2008, enjoy live Web coverage of Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the U.S. in April. And June will begin a yearlong celebration of the 2,000th anniversary of the birth of St. Paul, “Apostle to the Gentiles.” Though we’re making changes, we’ve also kept some of our most beloved features from previous years: free e-cards, back-to-school resources and our annual St. Francis Pet Blessings list –and, of course, the all-time favorite, Saint of the Day.
Friar Jack and Friar Jim and all of us are asking you to help us now, as we combine advertising and financial appeals to help maintain a strong program. Use our secure online donation form or mail a donation to Evangelization Fund, St. Anthony Messenger Press, 28 W. Liberty St., Cincinnati, OH 45202. If you prefer, you can phone in a credit-card donation to our Evangelization Fund at 1-513-241-5615, or in the U.S. at 1-800-488-0488.
Thank you for supporting our ministry! May God give you peace!
