ADVENT OUTREACH
Dear Prep Families: Advent 2009
It is once again fast approaching the season of Advent. In this holy season of preparation and waiting we are once again mindful of our PREP theme this year, “The Body of Christ in Action”. We would like to afford the opportunity to all of our families the element of service as we help the Apopka HopeCommunity Center which serves the working poor of our community.
The Annual Christmas store sponsored by the Office for Farmworker Ministry (now the HopeCommUnity Center) is a great gift to those who are struggling to provide for their families. Through the Christmas Store, the farmworkers and the rural poor community are provided with the opportunity to select and purchase a limited number of toys and other items for their children under 15 at a significantly reduced price. In this way the dignity of the parents is respected as well as their desire to help themselves. Money from this project comes back to the community in the form of educational programs for adults, children, and the whole family.
We ask that you donate only NEW items, which are not wrapped and which still have the price tags on them. It enables the staff to better reduce the price, and allows the parents to see the savings that they have received in participating in the Christmas Store. Parents remove the price tags themselves.
Listed on the back of this letter are items of special interest to the shopping parents. We have split the list up according to PREP sessions. We ask that all gifts be brought to PREP by December 14, 2009.
Thank you very much for encouraging your children to participate in the Advent outreach. We pray that this project helps in teaching our children that the greatest gift is giving and that it is in giving that we receive.
Peace,
MaryPat Moriarty
Director of Religious Education.
