Q: Where is Assumption Parish? A: Assumption Church is located in the New Chicago neighborhood of Hobart, Indiana. The church is located at the corner of Cleveland and Illinois streets and Assumption Hall is located just west of the church on Cleveland Street. Our Religious Education center is located on Illinois Street, just north of the church. The rectory is located at the corner of Arthur and Illinois streets, just north of the Religious Education Center. There are parking lots located directly in front of the church and also northwest of the hall at the corner of Arthur and Indiana streets. Q: When is Mass celebrated at Assumption Church? A: Mass is celebrated in the church weekdays at 8 a.m., Saturday at 4 p.m., and Sundays at 9 and 11 a.m. Q: When is the sacrament of reconciliation celebrated? A: Confessions are heard Saturdays from 3 to 3:30 p.m. in the church. Q: How do I become a member of Assumption Church? A: Contact Rosalie Adamchik, parish secretary, during office hours or in the rectory after Sunday Mass to fill out the parish census form. Office hours are available on the "Schedule" page to the left. Q: Does Assumption Church offer a parish school? A: Assumption parishoners can qualify for the parishoner subsidized rate at St. Bridget School in Hobart. Contact Fr. Jon Plavcan for more information. Assumption parish does offer weekly religious education for children in the Assumption Parish Religious Education Center. Q: How do I add a name to the prayer list during the intercessions? A: To add the name of a family member to the list of the sick, please call the rectory during office hours at (219) 962-1073. Q: How do I request a hospital visit? A: Because of new federal law governing privacy, only the patient or a designated family member may contact the rectory to request a hospital visit. Visits usually take place on Mondays and Thursdays. Requests can be made by calling the rectory during regular business hours, or any time in case of emergency. Q: How do I go about the baptismal process for a child? A: The parents of the child must first be registered and active parishoners. They, along with the prospective godparents, must attend a baptismal preparation meeting. The meetings are held at Assumption on the first Tuesday of each month. If you are expecting a child or have just given birth, you should contact the parish office at (219) 962-1073 to reserve a place for yourself at the meeting. A baptismal date will only be scheduled upon completion of the preparation session. Q: How do I go about being married at Assumption? A: To be married in Assumption Church, one must be a registered and active member of the faith community. Please contact the parish office at (219) 962-1073 at least 9 months before the desired date of marriage.
