Austin Finds a Home...
Since the school closed in the summer of 1978, there has been no place for Austin men to gather. No Homecomings. No Christmas Dance. No Fiesta.
Most classes have had reunions, and old friends gather for golf and picnics. But, there has been no central repository for coordinating graduate data, promoting alumni events, or gathering memories and memorabilia.
Now there are two.
St. Clare of Montefalco Church, the center of Augustinian activity on Detroit's eastside, is Austin's new home. A database has been developed to track graduates, providing a link to old friends, as well as this website to inform Alumni of reunions and fundraising events, and assist those interesed in promoting the Austin Legacy.
The Church is also home to the Austin Portico, which includes stained glass windows rescued from the chapel, a permanent exhibit of Austin photos and memorabilia, and secure archival space.
The school may have closed, but now enjoys new life, both physically and virtually. In some place other than just our hearts.
