Terra Nova & ACRE

Terra Nova

Terra Nova is a nationally standardized achievement test which is given to students in second, fourth, sixth and eighth grades each spring. Students are assessed in reading, language, and math. In Grades 2 and 4, students also complete the Test of Cognitive Skills, which measures thinking skills. These tests allow district and student achievement to be compared with the performance of other students in the nation, and also tell how well students are mastering skills in these subjects.

ACRE

Each year Grades Five and Eight take the Assessment of Catechesis/Religious Education test, commonly referred to as the ACRE .  This assessment is provided by the National Catholic Education Association.  Its purpose is to:

§         Serve as a tool for assessing the effectiveness of catechetical/religious education programs,

§         Offer a picture of where grade five and grade eight students are in terms of their basic religious knowledge,

§         Assess the beliefs, practices and attitudes of the students in these grades, and

§         Provide information on the strength and weaknesses of our religious education programs.
