Admission FAQs

How do I begin the registration process for my child at Bishop Leibold School?   For a student new to our school, please download both our registration forms: "New Student" and "Current and New Student". Please complete these forms for a new student, and send them with the $100 Family Registration Fee to the address below, by the Guaranteed Placement Deadline.  The Guaranteed Placement Deadline is listed on the "Registration Timeline" on the Admissions Forms link.

Please send the two completed forms and Registration Fee to:

Bishop Leibold School, West Campus

24 S. Third St.

Miamisburg, OH 45342

You will receive a folder with additional registration information appropriate for your child’s grade, as well as additional information about Bishop Leibold (if not already requested through “Inquire On-Line” option from this website).

What else do I need to register my child?
For all grades, you will be asked to submit your child’s birth certificate, baptismal record, and immunization record.  For Kindergarten applicants, these are requested at Kindergarten Screening in April, copied and handed back to you.  Immunization records are due before your child starts class.

If you are applying for Grades One through Eight, you will be asked to submit a copy of your child’s most recent report card and most recent standardized test scores.  If you wish to get started on this process, a transfer form to request records from your current school is available under “Admissions Forms”.

When will I know if my child has been accepted at Bishop Leibold?  Kindergarten Families are advised by letter in mid-May, once all forms are received and screening is complete.

New students in all other grades are advised within two weeks of your meeting with our principal and all paperwork is complete.

Registration forms are sent home to current families first, generally around the end of January, with new family enrollments opening shortly thereafter.

Registrations are handled on a first come, first served basis until all spaces are filled.

Guaranteed Student Enrollment ends on March 13.

Please note: Each grade level at Bishop Leibold School has a stated enrollment capacity, based on previous year enrollments for each grade. This policy ensures our school remains financially sound through accurate hiring and class formation, and maintains a desirable teacher/student ratio.  For a statement of the 2009-2010 Grade Level Capacity Enrollments, please click here.

Pre-K and Kindergarten  FAQ’s

Here is a list of questions we get most often from the families of prospective Pre-K and Kindergartners!

What Pre-K program options are available for my child?  For an overview of the Pre-K Program, please click here.  For more details, including our program handbook with tuition and programming information, please click here.

Must my child pass a test before being accepted at BLS Kindergarten?  If you are applying for admission into Kindergarten, your child must attend Kindergarten Screening in the spring.  This is traditionally around the last week of April.  This is an opportunity for you and your child to meet the Kindergarten staff and see our school.  Because incoming Kindergarten students come from a variety of preschools, screening enables our teachers to obtain information about the skill level of the incoming students that will allow them to plan for the start of school.  This is a fun day for your child, and these prospective students do not want to leave at the end of that day!

If a student falls short of our Kindergarten benchmarks, a private parent conference will take place with our Kindergarten faculty to share the results of the screening.  From this meeting, a decision will be made as to whether a student should start Kindergarten at BLS in the fall.

Would you explain how Extended-Day Kindergarten works?  If you choose Extended Day Kindergarten for your child, your child begins their class day at 8:15 and ends the first half of their day at 11 AM, at which time they join the other Kinder Kids, and have lunch and recess.  As a Kinder Kid, your child will experience extended learning through activities such as Spanish, music instruction, field trips, and extended instruction in language arts and math.  We are sure to include some “rest time” into the Extended Day, as it is much needed by students this age.  Your student will be dismissed at 3 p.m.

The tuition for Extended Day Kindergarten differs from Half-Day Kindergarten; please click on the Tuition Information link on the “Prospective Families” page for details.  The Extended Experiences Kindergarten link provides description and details.

Is there are waiting list for Kindergarten?  There is generally not a waiting list for Kindergarten.  However, we ask that you be prompt in returning all forms by the indicated deadlines to assure best placement for your child.  Please be advised that Extended Day Kindergarten is a popular choice among our families, and there are limited spaces for this option.

Do local daycare centers provide transportation to and from BLS for half-day Kindergarten?  It varies.  If you have a general idea of which daycare center you are considering for your child, or are looking for information of which do provide transportation within your area, please call Miss Wehner, our West Campus Secretary (937/866-3021).  She can provide information on how these centers are currently handling transportation to and from our school, and give you some direction in your search.

Do Kindergarteners wear uniforms?  No, this is not required.  Your Kindergartener should wear comfortable play clothes for active and creative learning!
