Last night, October 6, 2009, Bishop Robert Lynch presented the Fr. Luis de Cancer Distinguished Priestly Service Award to Rev. Demetrio Lorden, pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Wimauma. Fr. Demetrio has served our diocese admirably since coming from his native Spain. He has served in the following parishes: St. Rita, Dade City; Corpus Christi, Temple Terrace; Blessed Sacrament, Tampa; Our Lady of Guadalupe; Wimauma.
Fr. Demetrio is a very humble priest who has dedicated his life to working with the poor and especially the migrants. The Fr. Luis de Cancer Distinguished Priestly Service Award is named in honor of Fr. Luis de Cancer, O.P. a Dominican missionary who came to Florida in 1549 and was martyred on the shores of Tampa Bay in June 1549.
Congratulations Fr. Demetrio!
