Bishop Frank J. Dewane concelebrated Mass January 26 with area priests and guests.
Bishop Frank J. Dewane concelebrated Mass today with many priests from the area at St. Charles Borromeo in Port Charlotte. A Prayer Walk was held immediately after Mass by those who were able to walk while others quietly prayed for all life to be respected. Calling an end to the abominations destroying life, Bishop Dewane impressed that the Prayer Walk did not end today but began a life-long commitment by each one of us to protect the lives of those around us who are unable to speak for their own right to life; most especially the unborn, the encarcerated and the frail elderly.
Rosaries donated from the Rosary makers of three local churches, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Charles Borromeo and Sacred Heart were given to everyone to participate with beads. The Charlotte County Knights of Columbus, both the local and national Council of Catholic Women, Knights of Columbus Auxillary Women, guests and Venice Diocesan parishoners attended and volunteered for email registration links. Plastic models of fully formed humans (approximately 12 weeks in gestation) were donated and handed out as visual aids for prayer. Newborn and premie caps, knitted by the Guild of Our Lady Knitters and Crocheters from Sacred Heart in Punta Gorda, were given to expectant parents and grandparents to control heat loss during the critical first few days of birth.
Adoration followed the Prayer Walk and a lovely reception was held for networking and social gathering. On behalf of the Charlotte County Coalition for Life, thank you to all the workers and participants gathered to celebrate the gift of life.

APRIL 25, 2008, NOVENA OF MASSES AT ST. MAXIMILIAN KOLBE: "MY HEART STARTED BEATING TODAY!"
Father Rafael Padilla, Administrator of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church celebrated the 8 am One Month Novena April 25th. Father reminded us that if the Blessed Mother had the technology that we have today, she would be hearing Christ's heart for the first time at the one month stage of her pregnancy! "Beneath the heart of Mary, and in her womb, the tiny precious heart of Jesus began to beat. During the first month of HIS life, he has grown 10,000 times His size at conception. Even when he was three weeks old, His tiny heart could be heart" Father also urged us to value Life. "Life is not a choice", he said, "life is a gift from God!" "Let Him know how grateful you are for this great gift by attending the Novena of Masses around the Diocese. Bishop Frank Dewane celebrated the Conception at the Feast of the Annunciation in Epiphany Cathedral. Each month on the 25th ending with Christmas Day celebrates Christ's life in the womb." Today, April 25, 2008, we celebrated this momentous occasion when He came to redeem us."
At Spring Deanery Day, The Central Deanery presented St. Maximilian Kolbe, "Garden of Our Lady to the Unborn," with a plaque for winning the garden contest, too. They also had pamphlets from Laiety of Life, Novena handouts and Unborn Prayers.
It was a lovely way to celebrate, "My heart started beating today!"

Weddings and clothes – they are important parts in any and every culture. Can you think of any culture that doesn’t have weddings? That is not concerned with fashions in clothes? I can’t.
Today we hear Jesus speaking of how the flowers are clothed. In other instances He spoke of clothing the naked, rich people clothed in splendid fabrics, and new and old garments. And clothes are important for us, too. What would you imagine to be the gross revenues per year coming into our fashion industry? We needn’t spend time here talking about our American concern with clothes and fashions. It’s quite obvious to us all.
