Fashion Show...May be coming to the Bishop Ireton Council on March 11. A committee is investigating the possibility of holding this fund raising event. Dillard's department Store is a potential sponsor along with many other businesses. See the flier from Rick Brennan which is attached to this month's calendar insert.
Bingo Workers: Are desperately needed by your council. As you may have read elsewhere in this newsletter your council donated $88,000 to charity this past year. Although there are almost 300 members of this council only about 25% of the membership volunteer for bingo or kitchen bingo. We need your help. It's only one night every 5 weeks in a smoke fee environment. Please call DGK Rich Mayer @ 276-1263 to volunteer your time.
Did You Know???? Because of the combined efforts of members of our Council we were able to donate $88 thousand to charity in 2005. The majority of this amount stayed in the metropolitan area to help those in need. Approximately $15,000 went to Camp Baker. Other organizations that received donations from Council 6189 were Good Samaritan Church, The Comboni Sisters, Crossover Ministries, Special Olympics, The Benedictine Abbey, Commonwealth Catholic Charities and many more organizations as well as many families in need. A big thanks to all who made this possible including our loyal bingo players, Brunswick stew customers and KOVAR supporters. Thank you.

Remember insurance is for the living.
used cell phones lying around the house and you would like to depose of them? Hazel Cimino is collecting them for a charity that assists battered women. Your used cell phone may save a life, many already have. Please drop off your cell phone at the Bishop Ireton Center. Your used phone may save a life.
Brunswick Stew...The vegetables and onions have been cut, the potatoes have been peeled and "eyed" and the chicken has been picked. The stew pots have been cleaned and scrubbed and the paddles have been put away for another year. All this means that Council 6189 has had another successful Brunswick stew sale. Over 1100 quarts of stew were packaged and the majority of that has been sold or accounted for. A big thanks to all those volunteers, led by stew master Horace Scott, who made this event another huge success. The net proceeds of the stew were allocated to Camp Baker for the wonderful work that they do for "God's Children". Thanks again guys and gals, you always come through to make the "stew" a successful fratenal event.
Charity Motions (January)
$250 - Outreach in Love Christmas Party
$200 - Religious Education
$200 - Sacred Heart Church
$200 - St. Augustine Church
$250 - Christian Society for Children and Aging

The Charity Committee is looking into the frequency of when our charity awards are distributed. Because the majority of our charitable donations are derived from bingo proceeds it is imperative that we distribute monies to charitable causes according to the percentages as determined by the state gaming commission. Your bingo and charity committees will keep you informed of any changes or procedures.
Adopted Mission Church: Good Samaritan Church in Amelia County. This little parish of approximately 35 families is located on U.S. Route 360 about 3.5 miles from the Chesterfield County line with Amelia. It is located on the eastbound side of 360 less than a mile from a Shell gas station which is on your left going west.
How About A Shirt....or other Knights of Columbus paraphernalia? Brother Joe Aprile and his wife Vickie will be at the June 13th meeting and will display their State Council approved wares. Since they both retired from the Post Office they have formed their own embroidery company known as JOVIC and they have specialized in K of C wear.
