Our 35th Annual Boy Scout Retreat held on September 25-27 at Camp Good Counsel was a tremendous success. The theme of this year’s Boy Scout Retreat was on the Eucharist. There were a total of 130 teenagers, Boy Scout Leaders as well as Catholic Committee Members from the Diocese of St. Petersburg in attendance. The following units were in attendance:

Troop   33 – Our Lady of the Rosary

Troop 404 – St. Catherine of Siena

Troop   45 – Christ the King

Troop 434 – St Alfred Episcopal

 Troop   89 – Nativity

Troop 446 – St Frances Cabrini

Troop 148 – St. Mark the Evangelist

 Troop 455 – St Cecelia

 Troop 219 – St. Raphael

 Troop 610 – St Stephen

 Troop 302 – Inverness

We started the retreat out with a Reconciliation Service. Msgr. Austin Mullen, Fr. James Johnson, Fr. Kenneth Malley and Fr. Eric Peters came to assist me with the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Friday evening. I am so thankful for their assistance in the celebration of the Sacrament.

On Saturday evening, we gathered around the altar for the Celebration of the Eucharist and a little later on that night for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. In speaking with members of our Diocesan Boy Scout Committee, we were very impressed with the level of attentiveness that these teenagers displayed during these celebrations. There were teenagers gathered around the altar on their knees before Jesus for well over 30 minutes.

The 35th Annual Boy Scout Retreat at Camp Good Counsel could not have been so successful without the help from many people. I want to express my gratitude to Bishop Robert Lynch, my brother priests, Mr. Eric Hoegstrom for the gift of music, the Boy Scouts throughout the Diocese of St. Petersburg and their leaders, Mrs. Christie Lemar for coordinating the Retreat and activities and all the members of our Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting. May God bless you.
