Safe Environment Program Office at 6363 9th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL 33710 US - What is SEP?
What is SEP?
The Diocese of St. Petersburg remains committed to the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People adopted by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops. All employees and persons serving in ministry who are entrusted with the care, responsibility, or supervision of children, youth, and, or vulnerable adults are required to comply with fingerprint policy for background screening. Further, the Diocese has established safe environment training programs for employees and volunteers serving in parish and school communities. Anyone who has been harmed by someone serving in ministry is encouraged to contact law enforcement, the Florida Abuse Hotline at 800-962-2873, or the diocesan Victim Assistance Minister at 1-866-407-4505.
SEP stands for Safe Environment Program. This child safety program is mandated by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Diocese of St. Petersburg. The Florida statues and the Province of Florida also require vulnerable adults be added as a protect class. These programs are meant to enable children and adults feel secure and protected in their surroundings so children and youth can more freely receive a Catholic Education and along with vulnerable adults experience healthy relationships. The SEP consists of two major components. The first component involves background screening. Anyone who wishes unsupervised access to children, youth, or vulnerable adults must have their backgrounds screened for criminal history. The second component of the Safe Environment Program is SEP Training. This training in the form of a workshop teaches caring adults to recognize signs of predatory behavior in an adult, to recognize signs of abuse in a child and to report actual or suspected child abuse to the police or to the Florida Abuse Hotline. In the organizational structure of the diocese, the Safe Environment Program Office (SEPO) falls under the direction of the executive director of Human Resources, Chris Rajk. The SEPO, is headed by the SEP Program Manager, André Glaudé. The Safe Environment Program Manager is responsibile for management of the SEP, which includes includes program oversight, operation, management, program maintenance, training, compliance monitoring, communications, background screening, and policies and procedures. If you have a question or a request for assistance regarding the Diocesan Safe Environment Program, please contact Mr. Glaudé.
