HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER!

Brent Billman, Sacred Heart Parish Webmaster, captured the essence of our Volunteer Thank you Luncheon above!  Thanks for the picture, Brent and for all you do for our Guild!

Bishop Frank J. Dewane is calling all....Respect Life Representatives in the Guild of Our Lady, and CCW at every level....Knights of Columbus,
Women's Auxillary and other interested individuals  to spend a day at St. Charles Borromeo in Port Charlotte, (centrally located within our Diocese), on May 31, 2008.  Please mark your calendars and join us beginning at 9:30 a.m. for a Continental Breakfast, Prayer Service at 10 am, Closing Prayer at 3 pm.  For more information, please contact Jeanne Berdeaux, Venice Diocese Respect Life Department at
Berdeaux@DioceseofVenice.org.  Please save this date on your calendars!

The Nine Months Novena of Masses started Monday, March 31, 2008 at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice,  Bishop Dewane celebrated the first of the Nine Month Novena of Masses being held in local area churches throughout the Diocese.  See
Calendar Schedule
(courtesy of Marina Kopko, Venice Diocesan Respect Life Department) so that you could make the Novena of Masses in a Diocese Church near you.  Representing Sacred Heart at this first Mass were Shirley Byrne, Sacred Heart Respect Life Team Publicity Chair, Barbara Chamberlain, Guild Legislative Chair and Respect Life Chair for the Guild and Sacred Heart Parish and Dolores Garvis, Guild Organization Chair.  See photos here.

Are you wondering what we do here at Sacred Heart?  Every morning the Rosary is said at 8 am in Sacred Heart Church, Punta Gorda before the 8:30 am daily Mass.  While we are patiently rebuilding our new church, we especially celebrate First Fridays where we pray to Our Lady of Good Counsel to assist us and guide us and we receive our corporate communion.  We also strive to keep you educated, aware, informed and connected, not only to our community but also to the world where we live.

The Guild of Our Lady, Sacred Heart, Punta Gorda, Florida offers their First Friday Mass for our recently deceased members.  Come join the group in the choir section located behind the altar and help recite the prayer to our Lady of Good Counsel.  Following Mass we have our time for adoration of the Blessed Eucharist.

We celebrate the Holy Hour before Our Eucharistic King at 5 pm every Wednesday before the Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help held at 6 pm celebrated by either one of our priests or Deacon Ed Lundy right here at Sacred Heart.  It may be difficult to find us, but since Hurricane Charley we have been located in a room behind where the old church used to stand (211 Cross Street)!  Our Guild meetings are held across Route 41 at our Parish Center, corner of W. Charlotte Avenue and Route 41 South.

Check out our photos of Central Spring Deanery Day from St. LEO's in Bonita Springs last Saturday!

WALL SIGNING --A HUGE SUCCESS!

One could not have asked for a more perfect day!  Our new parking lot now complete, cars streamed in for the wall signing that began after the 12:30 p.m. Mass.  We march out from church with a joyous and triumphant, Alleluia!

Joy it was to be able to go inside our new church for the first time since Charley destroyed the old church!  We signed away!  While over across the street, safely accompanied by the Sherrif's deputy, we had a tent and a "Carry-In" Pot Luck Dinner thanks to the organization of the Guild of Our Lady.  (If you are not a member of the Guild of Our Lady, please think of joining us as we help Father Jerry build our new church.)  Everyone claimed everything was delicious! All  enjoyed the fellowship and some meet new parishoners who had been in the parish 10 years or more and simply never meet them before!

When it was over, two noble ladies were left, Lil and Charlotte. Lil sported her new Women's Auxillary pink shirt with a little sparkle on the top of the cross.  Charlotte was cleaning up the floor and getting the place ready for the Children's CCD on Monday.

Please email your photos to the webmaster at barbarachamberlain@embarqmail.com.  You could be named for the BEST PHOTO SUBMITTED!  Try it and see!  If you have a hard copy photo, see me at the Guild Meeding, third Tuesday of every month at Noon and I shall be happy to scan it into our slide show!

PICTURES FROM THE PRAYER WALK AT ST. CHARLES BORROMEO IN PORT CHARLOTTE, FL.
Bishop Dewane and guest priests celebrated the Holy Mass as the start of a wonderful day of Prayer for the Unborn and Elderly and all those who have been abused and incorrectly assessed as dispensible in our society.  God loves each and every one of us and no one has the right to terminate our life ahead of
God's plan for us.  Let today be the beginning of each person's commitment to the Rights of Life!

GUILD OF OUR LADY HAD A WONDERFUL RETREAT AT OLPH WITH FATHER JERRY KAYWELL
Ladies from Guild of Our Lady as well as surrounding area churches, such as St. Andrew's in Cape Coral were delighted by a wonderful retreat on the grounds of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Venice, February 26, 2008.

The theme of Father Jerry's lecture was "THE CROSS,"  how His Cross affected our lives, what His Cross meant to us and the future of our family lives with HIS CROSS.  We divided into twelve mystical groups and shared among us.  Later that day, a spokesperson from each group related our discussions.  For many of us, it was a first time experience to the Retreat Center that has been in existence for over 14 years now.

We had a great luncheon prepared by Mark, The Chef of Chicken Marsailles and walked around the 15 Stations of the Cross -- The last one being The Ressurection.  We ended with Eucharistic Liturgy, celebrated by Father Jerry.

OUR CHRISTMAS PARTY AT TWIN ISLES COUNTRY CLUB
A great time was had by all! There were prizes galore and plenty of time for friendships new and old.

ASPARTAME ALLERGY -- Be Careful of Sugar Free! Submitted by Adele Benkner
Thanks to Adele Benkner for submitting this article:  Would you believe Sugar Free chewing gum could destroy you? That it could bring anxiety, insomnia, depression, mind-fog, abdominal pain, unbearable leg and arm cramps, blurred vision, endless trips to the doctors, hysteria, suicidal thoughts and paranoia?

As the weird and horrifying symptoms progressed I sought the help of several doctors, a psychiatrist and made two visits to the Emergency ward. I was prescribed Valium, anti inflammatory, and excessive amounts of pain killers. This gave me no relief. Multiple tests were done for Electrolyte imbalances, mineral deficiencies, Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes, Lupus, all clear. These conditions all mimic the symptoms of Aspartame poisoning.
