FIRST CLASS IN RESPITE CARE HELD OCTOBER 27, SECOND CLASS PLANNED FOR DECEMBER 11, 2008.
With the Coordination of Dottie Bonjean, RN, the first RESPITE CARE CERTIFICATION COURSE took place on October 27, 2008 at the home of George and Barbara Chamberlain.
Our next class is being planned for December 11, 2008. The idea is to combine our first and second class for the RN and PT section of the course. LIFE CARE CENTER on Shreve Street is sponsoring this section for our Respite Care Certification Course. Their Director of Nursing, Patricia L. Edukonis, RN shall conduct the portion of the class in Handwashing and Infection Control. The Co-Directors of Physical Therapy, Aimee Portillo and Kelly McCormick shall present the Transfer Training and safety for Patients and their Caregivers. The plan is to begin at the Chamberlain's house at 8:30 a.m. with the RN and PT portion and then, we shall break for Mass being celebrated at 10:30 am over at the Life Care Center. After Mass, we shall come back to a luncheon and then start the Respite Care Course instructed by "Rickie" Arnold, well-known in the Diocese for her excellence in Respite Care Training. Only the second class will need to stay for this portion because the first class would then complete their certification with the RN/PT portion in the morning. Fingerprinting forms shall be available as well as insurance forms. Pre-registration is required. Please call Barbara Chamberlain at (941) 575-6761 for registration and information.

Ladies from Guild of Our Lady as well as surrounding area churches, such as St. Andrew's in Cape Coral were delighted by a wonderful retreat on the grounds of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Venice, February 26, 2008.
The theme of Father Jerry's lecture was "THE CROSS," how His Cross affected our lives, what His Cross meant to us and the future of our family lives with HIS CROSS. We divided into twelve mystical groups and shared among us. Later that day, a spokesperson from each group related our discussions. For many of us, it was a first time experience to the Retreat Center that has been in existence for over 14 years now.
We had a great luncheon prepared by Mark, The Chef of Chicken Marsailles and walked around the 15 Stations of the Cross -- The last one being The Ressurection. We ended with Eucharistic Liturgy, celebrated by Father Jerry.
A great time was had by all! There were prizes galore and plenty of time for friendships new and old.
Amongst a myriad of Fall and Christmas home-made items, the household goods moved the fastest! I guess everyone was thinking of decorating their homes, replacing older items they used to show and buying the latest and greatest in Fall and Christmas arrangements, pillows, bath items, kitchen towels, quilts, etc. Well, see for yourself! I hope you enjoy the photos! Barbara
Wasn't it fun! So many prizes from Dolores Garvis and her Committee! Francine Stevens won the grand prize for the big raffle money! Someone's table was very lucky and everyone won something! The food was great and the service wonderful and a few people remarked about the great drinks too!
It was a superb way to usher in the Christmas season, Isles style! Hope you enjoy some random photos of the event!
Couldn't make the Convention this year! Look at the fun we had! Take a look at the pictures of those you know and quiz them on it! The pictures speak for themselves! Plan to go in the ensuing years!
FIRST NOVENA OF MASSES, June 25, 2009, CELEBRATED BY FATHER LEO AT SACRED HEART
It's a wonderful way to walk through the pregnancy of Mary with Christ. We celebrated the third month of Mary's pregnancy with Jesus. By now, he would have fingernails growing on the tips of his fingers and toenails on the tips of his tiny toes. Joanne Mahoney coordinated our first celebration in the Novena of Masses made so popular by Bishop Dewane of Venice. Both Father Leo and Joanne Mahoney did a wonderful job and the reception for everyone was marvelous! Hope you will participate as the Novena of Masses is celebrated on the 25th of each month somewhere in our Diocese. Check the website: http://DOVrespectlife.org for local church schedule.
