Gabriel Awards at 1645 Brook Lynn Dr., Suite 2, Dayton, OH 45432-1944 US - Judging Criteria

Judging Criteria

The single most important criterion of a Gabriel winning program or film is its ability to uplift and nourish the human spirit. A Gabriel-worthy program or film affirms the dignity of human beings; it recognizes and upholds universally-recognized human values such as community, creativity, tolerance, justice, compassion and the dedication to excellence.

As Catholic communicators, members of the Catholic Academy affirm these values.  However, the Gabriel awards are not limited to any sectarian religious creed; they seek to honor radio and television productions and films that touch the hearts and minds of all people of good will, emphasizing our commonality as brothers and sisters.

All entries are judged on the basis of (1) the ability to uplift/nourish the human spirit; (2) content - the honesty, depth and clarity of material presented; (3) creativity - use of imaginative and innovative approaches and techniques; (4) the overall technical quality; (5) the emotional and intellectual impact of intended audience; and (6) its effectiveness in achieving its purpose(s).

In addition to the Gabriel awards, the Catholic Academy also presents Certificates of Merit to those finalists considered worthy of special recognition.
