For more than 40 years, Catholic Academy for Communication Arts Professionals has sponsored the Gabriel Awards, designed to honor works of excellence in broadcasting--programs, features, spots and stations -- which serve viewers and listeners through the positive, creative treatment of concerns to humankind. By sponsoring this annual awards competition, Catholic Academy for Communication Arts Professionals hopes to encourage broadcasters and producers to provide programming that serves, enriches and challenges their communities.
Judging Criteria: The single most important criterion of a Gabriel-winning program is its ability to uplift and nourish the human spirit.
All entries are judged on:
- the program's ability to uplift and nourish the human spirit
- the honesty, depth and clarity of material presented
- use of imaginative and innovative approaches and techniques
- overall technical quality
- intellectual and emotional impact of the program on its intended audience and its effectiveness in achieving its purpose(s)
In addition to the Gabriel Awards, Catholic Academy for Communication Arts Professionals also presents Certificates of Merit to those finalists considered worthy of special recognition.
Judging Process: Entries are screened by preliminary juries and then judged by "blue ribbon" juries charged with awarding the Gabriels and Certificates of Merit
Gabriel Award juries are composed of professionals from broadcasting, cable, film and educational production industries.
Presentation of Awards: Awards will be presented at the Catholic Media Conference in Denver in June 2013.
Recognizing the importance of film in conveying the human condition, the Catholic Academy has developed a special category for cinema excellence. Those theatrical releases that enchance our understanding of our relationships with those we know and those we may never meet ar encouraged to submit thier film. The film categories are: children's, documentary and drama.
Deadline for Broadcast entries is Wednesday, January 16, 2013.
Eligibility period: initially broadcast between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012.
Deadline for Film entries is Wednesday, January 16, 2013.
Eligibility period: Theatrical release between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012.
