The Gabriel Awards presentation will return to the annual convention, beginning with the 2010 Catholic Media Convention in New Oreleans in June.

Eligibility period: Initially broadcast between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009 or films with a theatrical release between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009.

Deadline: All entries and supporting materials must be received at the office in Dayton, Ohio by January 20, 2010, by 4:00 p.m. for broadcast programs.  Film entries must be received at the office in Dayton, Ohio by November 30, 2009, by 4:00 p.m.  No incomplete entries will be considered for judging.

2010 Entry Fees: entry fees must accompany each entry. Free station-of-the-year entry with entry in any other category.

Television: $195 (US) per entry
Radio: $125 (US) per entry
Film: $250 (US) per entry

Checks should be made payable to: Catholic Academy. Canadian payments should be in U.S. dollars by either Postal Money Order or check. Entry fees are non-refundable.

Tape format: DVD for television and film entries preferred but 1/2 " VHS video cassettes in NTSC format are accepted. Radio entries must be submitted on audio cassettes or compact discs. For noise reduction, the Dolby B or C format is acceptable.

If submitting more than one entry, e.g., the same program in different categories or different programs, each entry must be submitted on a separate DVD, VHS or CD. Only one copy of each entry is required. Please verify the quality and content of each DVD, VHS or CD submitted.

Determining category: Gabriel categories are determined by the type of program and by the size of the market for which it is produced. Please be very careful in selecting the category. Failure to do so can result in an entry being disqualified. Programs deemed by the jury to be in the wrong category will not be reassigned to the correct one.

For example, a documentary on Abraham Lincoln should be submitted in the "documentary" category, but a made-for-television movie on Abraham Lincoln should be entered in the "entertainment" category.

If a program was initially produced and broadcast locally, but was later distributed to other stations, that program is seen as being created and aired locally. Therefore, it should be enter in the "local release" category.

Cable programs distributed by satellite or otherwise nationally syndicated should be entered in the "national release" category.

Number of entries: There is no limit to the number of programs that may be entered by a station producer. The same program may be entered in more than one category.

Program series: Producers may submit either a single program representative of a series or a composite tape of representative segments aired during the series. A composite tape should be no longer than the length of a single program in the series. A written summary of the other programs in the series should accompany the entry.

Entry forms: the entry form consists of two parts. Entrants should complete both pages with requested information. Incomplete entries are subject to disqualification. For non-English language productions, the entry form must be submitted in English.

Canadian stations: In those categories where the local release is broken down by market size, Canadian television and radio stations serving more than 650,000 TV/radio households should submit in the categories for markets 1-25. Canadian stations serving less than 650,000 TV/radio households should submit in the categories for markets 26+.

Labeling: all tapes must be clearly labeled with the title of the program, length, air date, name and address of the entrant. Entries will be handles with the utmost care. Submissions will be returned upon request for an additional $10.00 per entry shipping fee.
