Micheal Flaherty is the president of Walden Media, a company he co-founded with his former college roommate, Cary Granat, to produce films, books and interactive programs that tie directly into school curricula.  Walden Media reaches 3 million teachers, 100,000 librarians, and 36 million students annually with these programs—working to recapture imagination, rekindle curiosity and spark an enthusiasm for life-long learning.

Walden Media released its first three films -Pulse: A Stomp Odyssey, James Cameron's Ghosts of the Abyss and Holes-to both critical and commercial success in 2003. In 2005 Walden released C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe one of the highest grossing films of that year.  December of 2006 saw the release of E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web and in 2007 came Bridge to Terabithia, an adaptation of Katherine Paterson’s Newbury Award winning novel. Upcoming releases include The Dark is Rising (2007), Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium (2007), and The Water Horse (2007).

Currently Flaherty serves on the board of Rachel’s Challenge, a school assembly and training program that was birthed out of the Columbine High School Tragedy in 1999.

Flaherty lives in nearby Lexington with his wife Kelly, his son Christian, his daughters Eileen and Reagan, and his dog Jumbo.
