Children in both Holy Spirit School and the Wednesday evening Religious Education classes celebrate the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist in the second grade year. Preparation for these sacraments begins in the first grade year. Therefore, if the child will not be attending Holy Spirit School, parents should call the Religious Education Office in August of the child's first grade year to register the child in the Wednesday night Religious Education program. Waiting until the child is in the second grade will only put the child behind others in his/her age group. It is expected that all children will have a continuous religious education experience to prepare them for their lives as a Catholic Christian. Candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation should have completed all the material taught at the previous grade levels. Final preparation for Confirmation is during eighth grade with the celebration usually taking place in the spring of the eighth grade year. We have tutoring programs in place for any child who has passed these age groups to prepare them to receive Eucharist and/or Reconciliation. We also tutor older children to receive the Sacrament of Baptism, if that is necessary. Older students who were never confirmed can also be tutored. Adults who have not been confirmed participate in part of the RCIA Program, or other preparation arrangements can be made. Tutoring for children who have had no Religious Education is available to bring them along to their grade level and to enter into the School or Religious Ed classes. If you have a child who is in need of any of these services, please call 453-1591 to discuss options.
