Holy Cross Catholic Church at 2438 S Alston Ave, Durham, NC 27713 US - Men's Society

Men's Society

Fr. Francis Scherer, S.J. formed the Men’s Club in 1968.  The original members were: Eddie Anderson, Chapin Baldwin, Charles Blackmon, Frank Bowens, Dr. Norman Cordice, Robert Duncan, Henry Garner, Sterling Gordon, Corteland Graham, Parham Shaw, Sr., George Thorne, Albert Willis, and Frank Wright.  In the early 80’s, the members adopted a Constitution and By-Laws and changed the name to the Men’s Society.

The purpose of the organization shall be: to promote social and intellectual leadership within the parish and the community; to assist and make recommendations to the pastor concerning the welfare of the parish; to provide a mechanism by which parish functions may be implemented and executed; to promote charity and scholarship in the parish and the community; and to serve as a role model organization within the parish and the community.

Membership shall be extended to any male 18 and older who is in concurrence with the purposes stated above.  Membership is not limited to men of the Catholic faith.

Over the years, the Holy Cross Men’s Society has seized many opportunities to serve the Church and the Durham community while simultaneously enhancing the understanding of the Catholic faith and spirit among the non-Catholics within the Triangle Area.

The group meets the first Saturday of each month at 6:00 PM
