Higher Ground Higher Ground is a series of week-long summer youth programs. These programs are for youth who will be juniors and seniors or who have just graduated from High School. Higher Ground III is open to college-age young adults. The purpose of these programs is to invite the young people to build and experience Christian community. Going Bananas for Jesus will be held in North Platte, March 2008. This is a biennial event for youth grades 7-9 which is planned and hosted by parishes within the diocese. The weekend consists of liturgy, keynote speakers, workshops, a dance, and two nights spent with a host family. Contact Kathy Schroeder at 534-7906 for more information.
Teens Encounter Christ
Teens Encounter Christ is an experience of Christian living designed especially for young people from ages 16-23. TEC provides a space to reflect upon their ideals, hopes, dreams, and problems as well as to discover a God they can believe in, a Christ they can encounter as risen and alive in their midst. TEC is scheduled on weekends during the school year at several locations in the Diocese. Contact Kathy Schroeder at 534-7906 for more information.
World Youth Day is an international event for youth and young adults ages 17-25. It is a week long celebration of prayer, community, teaching and faith, culminated by a vigil and mass celebrated by the Pope. Contact Kathy Schroeder at 534-7906 for more information.
The National Catholic Youth Conference is an exciting biennial four day experience of prayer, community, and empowerment for Catholic teenagers and adult sponsors. Host cities vary. Contact Kathy Schroeder at 534-7906 for more information.
Marriage Encounter
Marriage Encounter is a Worldwide movement established to strengthen marriages. In Western Nebraska weekends are scheduled 4-5 times a year in different locations throughout the Grand Island Diocese. A Marriage Encounter weekend offers married couples time free of all the usual distractions and provides tools to help improve their communication skills. Couples pay a $40 registration fee to reserve their space on a weekend. During the weekend, they are given the opportunity to confidentially make a donation toward the cost of their weekend. No couple is ever turned away due to finances. After a weekend, couples are invited to gather in their local areas for support and encouragement in using the communication skills learned at a Marriage Encounter. Notices of upcoming Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekends are posted in the church bulletin and can also be found in the Western Nebraska Register. Informational brochures with registration forms can be found on the bulletin board in the Narthex. Cursillo means "a short course in Christianity" and is a weekend experience of what church and Christianity are all about. Cursillo enables the attendees to experience the truths of what they have learned about in their faith and profess in the creed. Times and places are announced in the bulletin and Diocesan Paper.
