Knights of Columbus Dayton Chapter Meeting 10/17/2007

Chapter Minutes

Meeting called to order at 8 pm. Prayer and pledge led by Chapter President Doug Sabo. Previous minutes distributed by e-mail and were approved with changes.

Chapter President’s Report

- Committee appointed to review/revise bylaws o Dave Rickman, Henry Borchers, and Pat Flynn (correction to last month – Pat Flynn’s name added)

- So far six councils have paid their dues – need to get those in.

Chaplain’s Report

No Report.

Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer printed and distributed the Treasurer’s Report. Details are available to the Chapter delegates upon request. Checkbook balance as of September 19, 2007 is $6476.77. Income is $1665.31. Expenses are $280.00. Net Income is $1385.31.

Committee Reports

-Football Awards Banquet – Jim Deime No Report.

-Serra Club / KofC youth Ministry Awards – Henry Borchers: Held at Immaculate Conception on April 20, 2008. Approximately 300 youth nominated. This year, certificates of appreciation will be given out. Each council is asked for $150.00 contribution. Note correction from last month of “$50.00”

-Paul Gruhler Award – Paul Dunigan No report.

-Rosary Rally – Bob O’Connor: Jeff Weidermann – Rosary Rally went well. The crowd was less than last year probably because of the heat and the fact that the Life Chain was going on at the same time. 55 Sir Knights in full regalia.

-VA Chairman’s Report – Patrick Ewing November 11 – Mass at Holy Trinity – working with Dave Rickman. Readers and Eucharistic Ministers are needed. Mass at 3 PM, 4th Degree assemble at 2:30 PM

-Shrine / KofC Golf Stagg – Bob Babal No Report.

- KofC Columbian Classic – Jim Deime Columbian Class was held on October 8, 2007. 115 attended dinner, including 15 priests. 86 played golf, including 13 priests. Approximately 75 got door prizes. The priests enjoyed the outing. Close to $1000 was raised for seminarians. 50/50 was $212.00. Some shirts are still available at $10 each.

-Membership Gabriel Minton attended and discussed his new role – saying he considered it to be both New Council Development AND Council Revitalization. * If your council got no new members – you have a problem

-Soccer Challenge - Regionals are October 27 at 1 pm at St. Luke.

-Grand Knight Training Grand Knight training at 7:30 PM at Mangan Banquet Center on October 18.

Council Reports

500 Dayton 2 membership drives – one at St. Joseph, the other at Holy Trinity – 2 new members from each were signed up. Octoberfest is Friday, Halloween is 28th, Memorial Mass is 11/4, VA Mass is 11/11. 101.5 Radio is looking for religious programming.

1801 Fr. Schumacher Youth group pancake breakfast at St. Bridget – council provided $200 in support.

3724 Fairborn Respect Life Dinner on the 3rd followed by a Bizarre Pancake Breakfast in MHC School Cafeteria from 9 to 11 on the 4th Honor Veterans in Downtown Fairborn on the 11th, the 4th Degree will participate, and attend the 2nd and 3rd Degrees in Tipp City on the 11th Memorial Mass on the 15th Council Corporate Communion on the 18th at 9 AM. There are nine Bingo's this month.

Launch “Caring for Our Unfortunate Friends” food drive Memorial Mass at 7 pm on 11/15 at Precious Blood. Flag Retirement Ceremony with the Boy Scouts at 7 PM on 11/16 – old flags welcome.

DDC Newsletter September 2007

SOCCER The Regional Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge will be held on October 27, 2007. The location is St. Luke Catholic Church 1440 N. Fairfield Rd. Beavercreek, Ohio. Go behind the church buildings to get to the soccer fields. We will start at 1:00 pm but you should have your people there by 12:30 at the latest so they can sign in and warm up. As soon as your district competition is over email me a list of your winners. Include name, sex, age and score. I would like to know if you plan to attend the regional competition and if I can count on you to help with the regional program. We will need all kinds of help from getting people signed in to keeping score. Make sure each winner knows the location, date, time and directions to St. Luke Church. (Copy this newsletter and give it to the winners) Make sure your district soccer challenge is over before October 27, 2007. Directions to St. Luke Church are as follows: From the north take I-75 south to US-35 and go east on US-35 until you come to N. Fairfield Rd. exit to the left and follow the exit to N Fairfield Rd. Turn right (north) on to N. Fairfield and go about 1 mile. The church is on the left side of the road. From the south take I-75 north to US-35 and go east on US-35 until you come to N. Fairfield Rd. exit to the left and follow the exit to N Fairfield Rd. Turn right (north) on to N. Fairfield and go about 1 mile. The church is on the left side of the road. From the east take whatever road is convenient to get to US-35 and go west on US-35 until you come to N. Fairfield Rd. exit to the right and follow the exit to N Fairfield Rd. GRAND KNIGHT TRAINING

Grand Knight Training Sessions will be held on three different days and at three different locations. First on Tuesday, October 16 at St. Henry Council 2640 Hall, 151 E. Main St., St. Henry, OH 45883, Second on Wednesday, October 17 at St. Phillips Church (basement), St. Malachy Council 5128, 944 E. U.S.22 & 3, Morrow, Ohio, 45152 and third on Thursday, October 18 at the Mangan Banquet Center, 1585 Grange Hall Rd. Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. The sessions will start at 7:30 pm. Bill Sukel is a Past State Deputy from Tennessee. He is now a Regional Program Consultant from the Supreme Council and will be doing the training. This training session really lays out the program for a grand knight and is well worth going to. These sessions are primarily for Grand Knights and Deputy Grand Knights. Anyone interested in starting a council should attend and all DDs should attend a meeting.

PAST FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR’S BANQUET & BALL Fourth degree: The PFN Banquet and Ball will take place at the Kings Island Resort and Conference Center on November 3, 2007. The schedule of events will be Mass starting at 5:30 to Honor all Past Faithful Navigators. The banquet room will open for seating at 6:15 for seating and the social will also start then. The Banquet will begin at 7:00. After the banquet there is a special introduction of PFN’s by Assemblies with picture opportunities following the introduction. Other guests will then be introduced. The Ball will follow the Banquet. This event offers the opportunity for all assemblies to thank their Past Faithful Navigators District wide for a job well done. It also offers a chance to socialize with Fourth Degree brother knights and their ladies from all parts of our district. The meals will be Prime Rib or Chicken Cordon Blue. Special meals can be ordered but must be requested by October 27, 2007. See the FN for a reservation form. For everyone who plans to stay overnight, we have blocked out rooms for Friday and Saturday nights. If the hotel runs out of blocked rooms there is no guarantee that other rooms will be available. You will need to make your own reservations, call 1-800-727-3050 and tell them the group name is Knights of Columbus. This group rate is $65.00 per night plus taxes. The reservation cut off date is October 12, 2007. After the cut off date un-booked rooms will not be blocked. The cost is $30.00 per person.

MEMBERSHIP Membership Blitz You need to work with your councils to have an affective program in your district. RULES: 1. Hold some type of Member Drive(s) which result in at least (3) three prospective candidates being brought into a first degree during the month of October. 2. The council must completely fill out the ‘Dynamic Blitz and Incentive’ form I emailed you earlier. • This is a BONUS that compliments Step #56 & Step #58. It is in addition to the Steps and does not take the place of the Steps and their report forms. • A council may hold more than one member drive and degree to meet its minimum of three. Use the 6 lines to describe and report each drive. • Runs through October 31, 2007 – all degrees must be completed by the end of the day. • A council minimum is (3) three prospective candidates to be eligible for this bonus. No maximum. • One form per council. One form per District Deputy. WIN: One (1) shirt for the council, One (1) for the Grand Knight, and One (1) for the District Deputy. All Shirts will be the new “Following in Their Footsteps” golf shirts. The drawing will take place after the Supreme Membership Reports
