Knights of Columbus Dayton Chapter Meeting 9/19/2007

Chapter Minutes

Meeting called to order at 8 pm. Prayer and pledge led by Chapter President Doug Sabo. Previous minutes distributed by e-mail were approved.

Chapter President’s Report - The chapter was started in January 1965 and the bylaws were revised in 1969, 1973, 1975, 1979, 1987 and 1990. Some cities are probably missing. - Committee appointed to review/revise bylaws – Dave Rickman, Henry Borchers,

- State Membership Director Larry Droesch will address the Chapter.

Chaplain’s Report - No Report.

Treasurer’s Report - Treasurer printed and distributed the Treasurer’s Report. Details are available to the Chapter delegates upon request. Checkbook balance as of August 15, 2007 is $6454.57. Income is $1483.01. Expenses are $120.00. Net Income is $1363.01. Reminder that Chapter dues are $10 per delegate – each council can have up to 3 delegates.

Committee Reports

-Football Awards Banquet – Jim Deime No Report.

-Serra Club / KofC youth Ministry Awards – Henry Borchers Held at Immaculate Conception on April 20, 2008. Approximately 300 youth nominated. This year, certificates of appreciation will be given out. Each council is asked for $50.00 contribution.

-Paul Gruhler Award – Paul Dunigan The Award Dinner is usually held in May but can be held in April. Usually on a Sunday evening. Any council can bid on hosting. The dinner has been in Middletown for the past 3 years. 3 possible Sundays in April (6th, 13, 27th) and 2 in May (4th and 18th). Tentatively looking at May 4, 2008. Each delegate should think of a nominee from their council. More information in October.

-Rosary Rally – Bob O’Connor Meet at West Wing of UD Arena at 2PM on October 7. Assemble in Flyers locker room. General call for all Sir Knights. Meeting at 500 at 6:30 PM for questions held on September 26. Issue raised asking if 2 PM was too early. Life Chain also occurring on same day which is actually the Feast of the Holy Rosary.

-VA Chairman’s Report – Patrick Ewing Cookout on 9/16 @ 1 pm. We will be decorating the Alzheimer’s unit in December. Shrine / KofC Golf Stagg – Bob Babal No Report. KofC Columbian Classic – Jim Deime 10/8/2007. Registration at 10 AM. Shotgun start at 11. There will be hot dogs and soft drinks. Dinner at the Christopher Club – snacks, open bar, dinner. Door prizes and 50/50. Shirts available. 13 priests played golf last time, 17 had dinner. Benefits K of C and Serra Club vocations program.

Membership Larry Droesch addressed the chapter and need to concentrate on new membership. Membership down 63 members with June suspensions. A team has been created for the revitalization of stagnant councils – - if you follow the plan, your council will flourish - you need 5 guys committed Gabriel Minton will attend October 17 meeting. Concentrate on recruiting new members. Create a new council degree team and get $100 for your council October is Membership Blitz month. Bring in 3 new members, get a shirt. Jim and Terry are available for help as needed.

Soccer Challenge Regionals are October 27 at 1 pm at St. Luke.

Grand Knight Training Grand Knight training at 7:30 PM at Mangan Banquet Center on October 18.

New Business

-Motion made for donation of $100 to Columbian Classic. Seconded and approved. Knights can come to dinner for $15.00.

-Discussion of how home council is notified when Knight attends a Degree. Host council should notify candidate’s home council. It was suggested that list of new degree member be brought to Chapter. Larry Droesch stated that the responsibility is with the Grand Knight and the membership director. End of new Business.

Cardinal Joseph Bernadine 10 new members – up to 55 now. 2 applicants for March.

Insurance Agent’s Report – Mike Sisco, General Agent addressed the Chapter. New representative, Steve Timmer from 4022 has been hired. Every council from Middletown north has an agent serving them. The rating of the KofC insurance has been reaffirmed and the company is doing well. Several new products are being offered including Vantage Annuity, IRA Rollover, Guaranteed Issue Contract is coming out – good for those with health problems. Mass mailing to Knights from New Haven is pending.

State Personnel Reports

-GKs, DGKs, must and any other officer or member may attend 8/30/2007 @ 7:30pm at Mangan Banquet Center; GK Training Program on 10/18 @ 7:30pm; need to find a Chapter Chaplain.

-PFN Ball on November 3, 2007 at King’s Island Resort and Conference Center (Mass, reception, and dinner; block of rooms reserved). See attached.
