Knights of Columbus Dayton Chapter Meeting 8/15/2007

Chapter Minutes

Meeting called to order at 8 pm. Prayer and pledge led by Chapter President Bill Wirtz. Previous minutes distributed by e-mail were approved with two changes (July 18 meeting and State VA Chairman Pat Ewing changed to Diocesan VA Chairman. Actual State VA Chairman John Whytal.

Chapter President’s Report 3 goals set a year ago:

1) minutes by the weekend,

2) at least one meeting with 100% attendance, and

3) establish a chapter webpage.

Plus’s: - chapter audit - new Trustee’s - new Council and membership appointees for the Chapter - holiday party with Cincinnati Chapter - great success with on-going programs

Chaplain’s Report No Report.

Treasurer’s Report Treasurer printed and distributed the Treasurer’s Report. Details are available to the Chapter delegates upon request. See attached. Sword blessing ($117.84) should be changed to candidate snacks. No receipts.

Committee Reports

-Football Awards Banquet – Jim Deime No Report.

-Serra Club / KofC youth Ministry Awards – Henry Borchers No Report.

-Paul Gruhler Award – Paul Dunigan No Report.

-Rosary Rally – Bob O’Connor Planning meeting on 8/23/2007. Looking for financial support.

-VA Chairman’s Report – Patrick Ewing Cookout on 9/16 @ 1 pm. Letters will be sent out (invitations and information) to all GKs. ~200 meals, they provide food we provide labor.

-Shrine / KofC Golf Stagg – Bob Babal No Report.

-KofC Columbian Classic – Jim Deime 10/8/2007 Please submit degree info to Ohio State Council website: www.kofcohio.org

500 Dayton Picnic was a success; plan to continue. Jimmy Buffet Party on 9/14/07. PGK reverse raffle on 9/21/07, $30/couple.

1801 Fr. Schumacher Council raised $3,300.00 at Greene County Fair. Family Movie Night and Cookout on 8/24/07

3724 Fairborn August 18-19 - Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival - Council Walking Taco Booth and Sweet Corn Tattoo Booth. Council Sponsored Corn eating contests on both Saturday and Sunday at 1 PM. August 18 - Fr. Cy's Birthday Party, 2 to 3:30 at Mercy Sienna, North Main St.. He was 84 on August 11. August 23 - Sweet Corn Contest Winners Award Dinner at Fairborn Hall 6 pm dinner 7 pm awards. Menu - Chicken, Veg's, Salad & Dessert. Cash Bar. $5.00 each. August 25 - Canoe Float. Contact Charlie Wertheimer at 878-6812. August 26 - MHC School 50th Anniversary Mass at 11:15. Archbishop Pilarczyk will celebrate. Fourth Degree assembles at 10:45 with full regalia. September 9 - Council Corn Roast and Picnic October 13 - Council Reverse Raffle for $3,000. Additional $100 & $50 every 10th ticket drawn. Doors open at 7 PM drawing starts at 8. Food and open bar all evening. Donation $50. Admits two. Only 300 tickets printed. . Also have gavels and engraving plates available.

3730 Fr. William O’Conner Server scholarships ($500.00) to attend parochial school of their choice. State tour meeting. 09/22/07 golf tournament at Holly Hills (Waynesville).

3754 Marion Friday night dinners starting in September. Blue Mass on 9/15/07 at 4:30 pm

4022 Maria Joseph Officers installed last week. Monthly Friday night dinners to continue. Annual $500.00 scholarship awarded. Columbian Classic.

4424 Our Lady of Peace Fairborn See attached report. Back to school party. Rosary to end abortion on 8/26/07. Leadership workshop. Fish fry on 9/8 @ 6pm. 6th grade comp contest

5129 St. John See attached report. 1st degree on 8/19/2007. Pancake breakfast/recruiting blitz. Mid-year letter sent (dues). Family campout on 9/21/2007

10215 St. Leonard See attached report. 1st degree team was certified. 2nd & 3rd degrees on 9/23/2007. Golf outing tournament at Holly Hills, shotgun @ 11 am, $40 for 18+cart ($10 if meal only). 13 Knight turnout at pancake breakfast held on 8/12/2007 (5 Form 100’s).

State Personnel Reports - Numbers for August looking good, 67 new memberships, 100 expected by month’s end; new council development; value of public affairs/relations emphasized; membership drive encouraged (T. Cooney); GKs, DGKs, must and any other officer or member may attend 8/30/2007 @ 7:30pm at Mangan Banquet Center; GK Training Program on 10/18 @ 7:30pm; need to find a Chapter Chaplain. PFN Ball on November 3, 2007 at King’s Island Resort and Conference Center (Mass, reception, and dinner; block of rooms reserved). See attached.
