There was a discussion about holding a block party.  Emails will be sent to each GK.  Each council will be asked for donations.  In September or October, there will be a Fall cookout.  80 meals were served last year.  It was noted that the VA activities also get about $400 to $500 from the State Council.  Michael Friel pointed out that a lot of the VA residents really just want someone to talk to them.  Bob Babel pointed out that the VA does not provide dessert – and that the dessert needs to be SUGAR-FREE.

Shrine / KofC Golf Stagg – Bob Babal

Reminder that $400 from golf outing goes to the Shriners.  Other golf outings: Regional Tournament was last weekend, State Championship is August 9.  Super Seniors (65+) on August 7, Seniors is on August 8.  Father Chuck Memorial Golf on Saturday, September 27 at Weatherwax in Middletown at 1:30 PM.  Shotgun start.  Benefits high school tuition.

Membership over 100% of quota even with new councils taken out of figure.  Eleven councils had double digit increase in membership.  Seven councils had increase of only 1 new member or less.  Terry pointed out that a new member is a a) new back, b) new source of ideas, and c) potential new leadership.

Insurance Agent’s Report – Mike Sisco

            No report

Unfinished Business

·        Constitution and By-Laws:

o       Jeff Weideman made motion to accept by-laws as amended and presented to the Chapter.  Motion was seconded.  Motion was passed by voice vote.  Congratulations were extended to Pat Flynn for his hard work.

·        District Deputy #8 Ed Ponder reminded everyone to sell SPORCH tickets for the Pope portrait.

·        Elections

o       Nominations were read – Hank Borchers for President, Tim Mangan for Vice President, Mike Thomas for Treasurer, Jeff Hall for Warden.  Nomination still needed for Secretary.

o       Nominations opened to floor – Paul Ault nominated for Recording Secretary.

o       Nominations were closed in accordance with the By-Laws

o       All above candidates were elected by affirmative voice vote.

New Business

  1. Brochure on Honor Flight distributed with reminder that we supported them last year.
  2. Jeff Hall noted that Fairborn Council is very pro-life and has always had a billboard for pro-life or Keep Christ in Christmas but may not be able to afford it this year.  They are considering a Pro-Life Softball Tournament with an entrance fee of $100 per council.  They need $800.
  3. Bill Wirtz continued the discussion from last month regarding radio time on WSWO radio.  A presentation by Gloria Canfield and the station manager outlined the possible options.  It was pointed out that there is a lot of non-Catholic Christian radio available but a paucity of Catholic programming.  The Church has a long way to go to catch up. It was pointed out that the station broadcasts from Kettering to Troy, Xenia to New Lebanon.  Station has no Arbitron rating because of expense of getting one.  The station often broadcasts at festivals and relies on word of mouth advertising.
    1. A motion was advanced to continue the existing radio program for 6 months which is on Sunday mornings for 1 hour.  Total cost would be $1560.00.  Initially, it was proposed that payments be made in increments of not less than $500.00. Discussion from the floor pointed out that the original motion was to authorize spending of $390.00 Bill Wirtz explained the motion history and how it went from $390 to $1560 – because of original smaller time slot no longer being available.  Bill noted that no money had been expended as of yet.  It was opined that the source of the money would be raffle tickets and other fundraisers.

                                                               i.      Time of Broadcast: 10 AM to 11 PM, starting August 5

ii.      Frequency: 101.5 but changing to 101.1 on August 1.

                                                            iii.      Transmission echoed on 97.7

    1. Motion to expend $1560.00 over six months – in 6 months increments of $260.00 was offered to the group.  Motion passed by voice vote with one “no” vote recorded.
