Chapter Minutes

George Spears is serving as Acting Warden in the absence of Jeff Hall.

Treasurer Michael D. Thomas is serving as Acting Secretary in the absence of Paul Ault.

 

Meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm.  Prayer and pledge were led by Chapter Hank Borchers.  Previous minutes were distributed by email and hardcopy.  No objections or changes offered. Minutes approved

           

Chapter President’s Report

Chapter President noted the absences of Jeff Hall and Paul Ault and suggested that replacements might be needed.

 

Chaplain’s Report

Fr. Ryan noted that the Knights were present at the reception of the new Archbishop.

 

The Vatican has issued a new ruling on bioethics – reproductive issues – gene therapy

$  4,428.46  in checking account as of December 17, 2008

Hank encouraged all councils to contribute.

Awards Banquet is May 17.  Handout was distributed.  Bids to host are due by February 2009.  Middletown will be.  Fairborn hosted last year..

VA Chairman’s Report – Randolph W. O'Connell
            December 6th – Assemblies 815/3056 decorated building 305 at the 
            Dayton VA.
Mrs. Rohde et. All put together gift bags.

            December 11th – gift bags were distributed. Council 14400 distributed shirts.

            There will be a 12 month plan for Veterans activities.

            If you work at the VA, VA needs you to complete a volunteer form
            and they will issue you an ID b
adge.

Note correction: Patrick Ewing was incorrectly reported as VA Chairman.
Randolph O'Connell was appointed in November 2008 as District 2 (Dayton) Chairman for the 4th Degree. Randolph O'Connell was also appointed 3rd Degree VA Chairman for the Greater Dayton Chapter in December 2008. The meeting minutes were accepted at the January meeting subject to this change being implemented on the website.

    1. What can the Knights of Columbus do?

                                                               i.      Join Bishop Fenwick Society as a Council

                                                             ii.      Institute a Burse in the name of a priest for seminarian education

                                                            iii.      RSVP – Refund Support for Vocations Program

·        Father Schnippel explained that he was a 3rd Degree Knight and had been a Knight since age 19. 

·        Total cost of seminary estimated at $65,000 to $80,000 per seminarian

·        Fr. Schnippel asked us to pray for vocations and pray for seminarians from OUR parish.

·        Approach someone that you think would make a good priest.  “One person CAN make a difference” – told story of old lady that prayed for him to be a priest.

·        Do not speak ill of priests and religious.  People hear you criticizing the OFFICE, not the MAN.  Pay respect to priests

·        Seminarian Interns can be provided to parishes – parishes expected to pay the costs of living stipend at $500.00 per month.  Incarnation has had interns.

·        St. Michael Prayer Warriors – 350 plus attended in Cincinnati.  Hosting conference in Piqua on January 18.

    2. Told story of starting a Burse in honor of an older priest who had all he needed.
    3. Encouraged us as Knights to serve as leaders for vocations
    4. Prayer and attitude are so important
    5. Asked us to continue the fight  - continue our support of vocations.  Emphasized that we need a lot of people at Piqua.
