Working to educate parishioners on the realities of human trafficking, the Life and Multicultural ministry offices hosted a workshop July 12.
Nola Theiss, executive director of the Human Trafficking Awareness Partnerships, gave the more than 40 people in attendance ways to combat the issue. Also involved were Brigetta Gynther, of Interfaith Action of Southwest Florida, who translated for Romero Ramirez, of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers.
Theiss’ suggestions included:
Spread the word.
Know the signs of human trafficking.
Know who to call.
Encourage police & government officials to work on this issue in your community
Make a financial contribution to a group combating human trafficking.
If you suspect human trafficking, call the FBI 24-hour emergency line at (813) 273-4566.

Tell as many individuals about the crime as possible
Make a financial contribution to a group combating human trafficking.
