About 37 million Americans live below the poverty line. For a family of four, that’s an average yearly income of less than $20,000. For a single person, that’s just under $10,000. Imagine putting food on the table with that paycheck.
"It's a feeling of being powerless by yourself; of living from day to day; of being treated without respect. It's working till you hurt and always coming up short." This is what some say about living a life in poverty in this country. It could have come from any one of 37 million Americans who live that experience every day. It could have come from any one of the homeless people Catholic Charities serves at Pinellas Hope or from those who seek help with a utility payment or rent, who are one paycheck from losing it all.
Join “Brake the Cycle” on Nov. 15 for more than a bike ride, it’s a ride of faith. Be a bike-pedaling Samaritan.
The 33-mile, 13-mile and children’s 3-mile fun ride cost $20 in advance and $25 day-of.
Proceeds benefit the Catholic Campaign for Human Development and Catholic Charities, both of which work to help the poor in our backyards. We can all take part – we can pray, learn and act for change.
