Brake the Cycle of Poverty

On the morning of November 14th, the Diocese of St. Petersburg Office of Life Ministry will be hosting the third annual Brake the Cycle of Poverty Bike Ride at Jay P. Starkey Park in New Port Richey. As of this year, thirty-seven million people live at or below the poverty line. This ride will support the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), an effort by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to end domestic poverty, and Pinellas Hope temporary shelter for the homeless (www.pinellashope.org). The community is invited to participate in this ride of solidarity in a variety of ways. The first option is to bring a bike and join in the 33-mile, 16-mile, or 3-mile family fun ride. The rides will start at 8 am (33-mile); 8:30 am (16-mile) and 10 am (family fun ride). The fee to ride is $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the ride. Children under 12 are just $10. Another way to participate is to volunteer for the event. Volunteers are needed to set up for the ride and coordinate various small projects throughout the morning such as registering riders and handing out water bottles. If you cannot join us for the day of the ride, a financial gift is greatly appreciated. Your tax deductible gift will support Pinellas Hope and CCHD. If you have any other questions about this event, please contact Sabrina Burton Schultz ( sab@dosp.org) or Chelsea Shoemaker (cms@dosp.org) for more information: 727-344-1611 *325. Lastly, please pray for this event as well as those we are riding on behalf of as a way to connect to this event spiritually. Please consider these options and remember to save the date for Saturday, November 14th!
