Little Flower Parish at 204 1st St. N.W., Browning, MT 59417 US - Bishop George Thomas Celebrates the Indian Days Mass

Bishop George Thomas Celebrates the Indian Days Mass
He is Given his Indian Name "Holy Warrior" by Cheif Earl Old Person

Cheif Old Person explains the honor of Receiving an Indian Name
During the weekend of July 11th the Blackfeet Indian Nation celebrated the annual North American Indian Days. Bishop George Thomas celebrated for our people the Mass scheduled at the Campground Sunday morning. Bishop Thomas told our people that his visit to the Blackfeet was his first pastoral visit anywhere since being made Bishop of the Helena Diocese on June 4th, 2004. He stated to the delight of the people that he had done this on purpose because they historically were the first people to receive the faith in Montana. The people then surprised the Bishop by giving him his Indian Name-- "Holy Warrior". To have this happen so quickly is a great honor, and to have it given by the Cheif of the Tribe (Earl Old Person) is a very special honor. We were very blessed to see Bishop Thomas and Cheif Old Person together at this great event. See the Photo Album (Next Article) which shows the Bishop receiving his Indian Name
