The concept of the “Little Friar and Friends” was created by Marc "Brother Juniper" Leger from Omaha, Nebraska. This father of 6 children was saddened and frustrated to see billions of dollars spent every year for all kinds of children’s “theme” toys, games, and action figures. They are everywhere! On television, at the checkout lanes and even in the “kids meals” at the fast food restaurants. Although, for the most part, these are not bad, nowhere can you find a trace of God, the source of all good. Instead of the big purple dinosaur, green frogs, mutant turtles, or the famous and popular theme park mouse, wouldn’t it be great if our children could get equally excited about some characters that could actually strengthen them in their Faith? Wouldn’t it be exciting to see children “want” to learn more about Jesus, the angels and the saints? As a member of the Secular Franciscan Order, Marc began to consider the humor and holiness of the very first Franciscan Friars. Wouldn’t it be fun to bring them to life as huge mascots? They would be hilarious! Kids of all ages would love them! After seeing them, you could never forget them! They could teach just about anything We can be a new generation of "fools for Christ!” All these plans incubated until Marc ran into a priest friend who liked the idea and said, “It’s time.” Shortly thereafter the startup plans were completed and the first mascot was ordered. This was the beginning of the Little Friar and Friends Youth Outreach Ministry. Where will it lead?
