We are a congregation of about 90 families. Our Administrator is Fr. Raja Chappidi. Fr. Raja started his ministry at St. Mark on September 6, 2011
The first Catholic Church built in Monticello, a little more than two decades ago, St. Mark's parish is consistantly growing. It has outgrown its church building three times and added classrooms and expanded its parish hall. The former, smaller sanctuary has been converted to a chapel which is used for most weekday masses.
St. Mark sits in Arkansas, a state in which Catholics make up only three percent of the two and one half million inhabitants. Ground was broken for the first "new" church in June, 1985 only ten years after Glemnary Missioners of Cincinnati, Ohio had taken responsibility for pastoral and missionary work for Ashley, Bradley and Drew County. That project was completed in 1997.
Following a decade-long fundraising project, a newer, larger church was completed in July of 2008. The church has large windows with a view of surrounding wooded areas, a high beamed ceiling, and a flowing granite font and baptistery.
Monticello is located in Drew County. The priest of St. Mark's also serves at Holy Child Catholic Church in Dumas, Arkansas, Good Shepherd in Fordyce, Arkansas and St. Mary's Catholic Church in McGehee, Arkansas.
As of Sunday, October 23, 2011, Mass is held in English at Holy Child (Dumas)at 11:15 AM each Sunday.
Mass is held in English at St. Mary (McGehee) on Saturdays at 5:30 PM, and Tuesdays at 8:30 AM. Mass is held on Saturday at 4:00 PM at Good Shepherd (Fordyce).
