TEN THINGS THE ORGANIZATION
COMMISSION CHAIR CAN DO
|
- NEW Organization Commission Chairs - Meet with your predecessor and find out what has been done in the past. Does she have any suggestions? Review with her what has been done in the past and ask what she thinks would help your council grow. Her experience is valuable!
- Become familiar with the NCCW Guidance and Resource Manual. If you do not have a copy, consider purchasing one for your use. Study it and look for suggestions that would help you in carrying out the tasks for your commission. It contains much information that will be helpful!!
- Have job descriptions so that the responsibilities for each position on your diocesan council is clearly defined and encourage parish councils to develop job descriptions.
- Encourage training in your diocese – not only diocesan leaders but parish leaders too. The more informed your leaders are, the more comfortable they will feel in carrying out their tasks. Set them up for success, not failure.
- Encourage your diocesan council to establish a goal or purpose for the year and then plan how this goal can be achieved. Work together as a team to carry out the work.
- Set up a calendar of events for your diocesan council and publish it so members can plan ahead and know when an event is going to be held.
- Lend support to each of the other commissions. Read and stay informed so that you can give suggestions or ideas to help the other commissions in their work. Make your council work a team effort.
- Communicate, communicate – keep members informed. This can be done any way that is efficient and gets the information out. Some ways to communicate - telephone, letters, articles in your local newspaper, e-mail, church bulletin, diocesan newspaper and CCW newsletter. Remember, communication is a two-way street – ask your members for input too.
- Become an individual member of NCCW! This assures that you will get your own copy of the Catholic Woman magazine and also demonstrates your dedication to and support for the National Council of Catholic Women.
- Encourage others in their work and give praise when earned. A good leader empowers others to come forth to share their talents. Always be enthusiastic about your Council work.
