Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church
Welcome to our home on the Internet. Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a people who find our meaning when we gather in Word and Sacrament at the altar of the Lord. Thus united in the Body of Christ we recognize His Spirit calling us to mission. We are called to develop a community of persons who are formed in the image and likeness of Christ. To achieve this end we will encourage and support Catholic education in our parish elementary school, be as active partner in our interparochial high school, and provide programs of religious education for not only the younger members of our community, but for all members of our parish family. We are called to support family life. To achieve this end we will help our families enhance their unity in Christ through sacramental preparation, programs of family prayer and opportunities to bring the liturgical year into the home. We will enrich the social life of our families by gathering them for education, empowerment and fellowship. We will offer support to families in their times of difficulty by being present whenever needed to the elderly, widowed, bereaved and hurting. We respect life and will respond appropriately as a Christian community whenever human rights are challenged by persons or circumstances. We are called to reach out to those outside our community. We are committed to the salvation of all. To achieve this end, we will reach out to reconcile inactive Catholics in the love of Christ. We will invite those not of our faith community to join us. We will work with people of all faiths whenever possible in joint projects to better the community and to foster a spirit that will lead to our coming together as one fold under one shepherd. We will be a sign of God's mercy and justice serving those in need. We ask our patroness, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, to guide and strengthen us in the accomplishment of this mission. Help us to show our gratitude by loving each other as you love us. Make us understanding and patient with one another - quick to admit our failings and ask forgiveness - generous in sharing the joy and strength we can give each other. Father, give our family lively faith and the courage to share it with those around us. Direct us to the state in life you plan for each of us, and help us to use your gifts to serve you. We entrust our family to your fatherly care. Preserve us from the corruption of the modern world and help us draw closer daily to you and to each other, until we come to share with you the joys of Heaven. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, help us to be a holy family. ![]() Mass ScheduleSundays: 5:30 pm Saturday Vigil; 7:30 am; 10:00 am, 12:00 noon Children's Liturgy at 10:00 am Mass (4 years and up) September through May Misa en espanol cada domingo a las 3:00 pm en la Iglesia de San Pedro y San Pablo

The property on which our parish is built was once farm land that belonged to the Anderson family. In 1937 our first pastor, Rev. J. Harold Shea began the building of our church which was completed in May 1938. Our Education Ministry began in September 1937 in the Anderson's original farmhouse. Expansion of enrollment led to the construction of the first brick school building as well as the convent in 1948. Following Fr. Shea's transfer in 1948, our pastors were Rev. Walter Bush, Rev. James P. Niedergeses, Rev. Albert Siener, Rev. Vincent Hines, Rev. Joseph Brando, Rev. T. Allen Humbrecht, and Rev. Michael Nolan who is presently pastor and an alumnus of our school. The building and grounds have been renovated and added to over the years. In 1956 the balcony was added to the church, as well as the covered walkway to the school, and the vestibule was enlarged. Also at that time, the school added four classrooms and the cafeteria size was doubled. A football field and stadium enhanced the sports program, which began in earnest when Stagmaier Gym was built in 1953. In 1987, parish needs dictated more building, when the Parish Life Center and a third school building were added to the campus. Meeting rooms and office space along with four classrooms, a school library, and computer lab completed our facility to date. Our Lady of Perpetual Help School is a state certified Catholic school which has grown from 60 students in 1937 to 435 in 1999. The Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary began the education of our children and, with lay teachers, continue to serve the school which educates children from Kindergarten through the eighth grade. Today our parish consists of nearly 1,000 families and currently serves numerous liturgical, charitable and social ministries throughout the Chattanooga Catholic community.
