MARTINEZ, David - Of Flint, age 74, died Saturday, May 9, 2009 at his residence. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 3p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2316 West Coldwater Road, Flint, Father Tim Nelson officiating. Cremation has already taken place.

KOLL, Gerald Herman "Brother Boniface" - Of Mt. Morris Township, age 84, died Sunday, April 26, 2009 at his residence. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 2316 West Coldwater Road, Flint, Father Tim Nelson officiating. Burial in St. Catherine's Cemetery in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. Those desiring may make contributions to Alma Redemptoris Mater. Visitation 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at church. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Visitation 9 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the Mass. Gerald was born in Spring Hill, Minnesota on January 26, 1925, the son of August P. and Loretta (Laubach) Koll. He attended St. Boniface Grade School and Melrose High School in Melrose, Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 until 1946 in the 25th Infantry Division. On April 26, 1949 he married Eunice B. Carlson in Morgan, Minnesota. He farmed in Redwood Falls, Minnesota with Park D. Sanders from 1949 - 1991 and then farmed for The Sisters of Mercy in Jackson, Minnesota from 1991-1992. He then entered religious life with Alma Redemptoris Mater in 1992 and resided in Alma, MI, Fenton, MI and most recently at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Flint, MI.

VASQUEZ, Paul - Age 56, died Saturday, Ap ril 11, 2009 at his residence in Austin Texas. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2316 W. Coldwater Road, Flint Michigan, 48505. Fr. Timothy Nelson, Pastor and Fr. Eduardo Lorenzo residing. Cremation of the body has already been completed in Austin, Texas. You may visit with members of Paul’s family and friends at the Church at 9:00 a.m. until the start of the Mass. If desired memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the St. Vincent de Paul of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Flint.
 

TRACEY, Benjamin G. Jr.- Of Grand Blanc, age 71, died Saturday, June 21, 2008 at his residence. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11AM Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, Father Tim Nelson officiating. Burial in Moddersville East Cemetery.  

MATA, Pedro B. - Of Burton, age 74, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at GrandBlancRehab & NursingCenter. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11AM Monday, December 3, 2007 at Our Lady of Guadalupe, G-2316 West Coldwater Road, Flint, Father Eduardo Lorenzo and Father Tim Nelson concelebrating. Burial in New CalvaryCatholicCemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Visitation, 5-8PM Saturday, 9AM-8PM Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A rosary will be prayed at 7:30PM Sunday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Mata will be at the church from 10AM Monday until the time of the Mass. Pedro was born in Laredo, Texas on February 5, 1933. He was involved in many community organizations in the city of Flint and was on the Dort Federal Credit Union Board for 20 years. Pedro started the first Hispanic radio program in the Flint area at WTRX Radio Station. He continued the tradition at WFBE "Radio Imagine" for the Hispanic community for 35 years. Mr. Mata retired from GM/EDS with 41 years of service. Mayor Woodrow Stanley made an official proclamation in honor of Mr. Mata citing the Ben Mata day for the city of Flint. Surviving are sons, Javier "Ben" (Karen) Mata of Flint, Joel (Lillian) Mata of Mayville, Roberto and special friend, Stacey Duval of Flint and Martin D. Mata; grandchildren, Jason, Heather, Andrea, Stephen, Joey, Stacey, Katrina, Nichole, Alicia, Sierra, Kaylee and Brooklyn; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Romana Juarez of Flint and Dolores Baker of Flint; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

HERNANDEZ, Jesse - Age 84, of Waterford, died Thursday, January 22, 2009 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac. Friends may visit the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hill Funeral Home. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Hernandez will lie in state at church from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of service. The Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, G-2316 W. Coldwater Rd. in Flint. Fr. Tim Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family or American Cancer Society. Our dad was a hero to us. He saved our lives on June 8, 1953 when he saw the tornado coming and got us to safety. He will be deeply missed by his wife and all who loved him. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Lourdes Nursing Home in Waterford, MI.

RODRIGUEZ, Felix - Of Flint, age 84, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Brian's House of Davison. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11AM Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, G-2316 West Coldwater Road, Flint, Father Tim Nelson and Father Eduardo Lorenzo con-celebrating and Rite of Committal will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

GUERRA, Dolores (Lola Vega) - Of Flint, MI, age 81, died Monday, November 3, 2008 at her residence. A Christian Mass will be held 11AM Friday, November 7th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2316 W. Coldwater Rd., Flint, MI. Visitation from 9AM until time of service Friday at the church. Family will receive visitors from 12-8PM Thursday, November 6th at Dodds Dumanois Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 901 Garland St., Flint. PALACIOS, Bernadette Caroline - Age 101, of Flint, died November 2, 2008 at her home. Visitation will be held 12 noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. at Reigle Funeral Home, 5501 W. Pierson Rd., Flushing. The family will receive guests 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, G-2316 W. Coldwater Rd., Flint, with a Funeral Mass to be held at 11 a.m., Father Tim Nelson officiating.

MOLINA, Guadalupe V. - Of Mt. Morris, age 51, died Thursday, October 23, 2008 at HurleyMedicalCenter. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am, Monday, October 27, 2008 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Flint. Rev Tim Nelson will officiate with cremation to follow. Guadalupe's family will be present to receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt.Morris on Sunday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm, where the rosary will be prayed at 7:00pm. On Monday morning, Guadalupe will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00am until the time of mass at 11:00am.

SUAREZ, Lourdes - Age 80, wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend died in Las Vegas, Nv. on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer. Lourdes was born September 3, 1928 in Cardenas, Cuba to the late Francisco y Isabel Alvarez. On May 9, 1953 Lourdes was united in marriage to Pedro M. Suarez in Cardenas, Cuba. In 1965 Pedro y Lourdes with family members left Cuba and established new roots and a loving home in Flint, Michigan. Lourdes spent 12 years working for AC Spark Plug Division. Lourdes was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, held membership in the Altar Society until 2003 when her grandchildren pulled on her heart strings and they made the move to Las Vegas, NV. Lourdes is survived by her dedicated and beloved husband of 55 years, Pedro; a son-in-law and daughter, Brian and Lourdes Maria Ochs; two grandchildren Nicholas and Amanda; a brother and his wife, Frank y Noema Alvarez. She is further survived by neices, nephew, relatives and many wonderful friends who she leaves treasured memories. Memorial services will be held on October 30, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2316 W. Coldwater Road, Flint, Michigan. Visitation will be held on October 30, 2008 from 9AM to 11AM with the family in the church. Mass will begin at 11AM followed by the entombment at New Calvary Catholic Cementary, 4142 Flushing Road, Flint, Michigan.

TRUJILLO, Alvaro O. - Age 83, of Mt. Morris, formerly of Flint, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Genesys Health Park surrounded by his loved ones. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11AM Friday, September 26, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, G-2316 W. Coldwater Rd., Flint with Fr. Tim Nelson celebrant. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held 11AM - 9PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint where a rosary will be prayed 7PM Thursday. Mr. Trujillo will be at church from 10AM Friday until the time of mass.

MAR, Elvira R. - Of Flint, age 72, died Sunday, August 17, 2008 at her residence. ASCENCIO, Mariana - Age 94, of Flint, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Durand Senior Care Center. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2316 W. Coldwater Road, Flint. Fr. Tim Nelson officiating. Interment to follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Mrs. Ascencio will lie in state at the church Monday at 9 a.m. The family will also receive friends Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Road, Grand Blanc. Rosary Service Sunday at 7 p.m. Mariana was born November 27, 1913 in Coahuila, Mexico, daughter of Luis and Rosa (Rodriguez) Limon and resided in the Flint area for 70 years. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Club Misonero, and the Altar Society. She is survived by: children, Maria and husband James Bolen of Las Vegas, NV, Frances, Juan, Jesse and wife Janie Ascencio, all of Flint, and Angel and wife Joyce Ascencio of Burton; 22 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Texas.

GATICA, Pedro R. - Of Flint, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2008 at his daughter's home in Grand Ledge, MI of liver cancer. Pedro was age 79. Friends may visit the family from 10 to 2 and 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Reigle Funeral Home Sunset Chapel. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Fr. Tim Nelson will officiate. Mr. Gatica will lie in state at church from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service. Burial will follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe to offset funeral expenses. The family extends a special thank you to the staffs of Sparrow Hospital in Lansing and Hospice Care of E. Lansing for their loving care and special attention.

, Guadalupe - Of Flint, age 77, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2008. Funeral Mass will be 1PM Monday, April 28, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 2315 West Coldwater Road, Flint, Father Tim Nelson officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe or to the family. Visitation 4-8PM Saturday, 12-3 and 5-8PM Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Rosary prayer 7PM Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Alberto will be at the church from 12 noon Monday until the time of the Mass. Guadalupe was born in Tela, Honduras on June 24, 1930, daughter of Adrian and Guillermina (Funez) Carias. She married Abraham Alberto in Honduras March 15, 1952. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe. She loved reading, dancing, traveling and especially spending time with her family. She worked at GM Truck & Bus for almost 20 years. She owned and operated North Dixie Food Market from 1969 - 1973 and A & G Market since 1980. Survived by loving husband, Abraham; children, Xiomara (Thomas) Golen, Lilia Alberto, Douglas (Sandy), Cesar (Karol); grandchildren, Tommy, Desiree and Giovanna Golen, Addis and Sheri Meltzer, Kristin, Elyse and Amy Alberto, Cesar, Jr. and Sonia Alberto; brothers, Beto Funez, Alonso Carias, Santiago (Nela) Carias; sisters, Elvia (Fausto) Ramirez, Sonia (Juan Jose) Hernandez; several loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents; son, Abraham, Jr.; and brother, Napoleon Carias.

AGUILAR, Ruben, Jr. - Of Flint, age 51, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008. Memorial service will be held at 2PM, Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Father Tim Nelson officiating. Per his wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation 11AM Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Ruben was born in Miami, Florida on April 9, 1956. He graduated from Northwestern High School. He served his country in the United States Army Reserves. Ruben retired from General Motors Truck and Bus with several years of service. He was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed hunting, cleaning his car, watching the T.V. show Cops, watching boxing matches, most of all he loved his children and his pets. Surviving are wife, Linda of Flint; children, Anthony Aguilar, Eric Aguilar, Angela Aguilar and Melissa Aguilar all of Flint; grandson, Drake Aguilar of Flint; mother, Gumesinda Urbina-Ortiz of Flint; father, Ruben Sr., of Donna, TX.; siblings, Juan and wife Pauline Gutierrez, Robert and wife Maria Carranza, Daniel and wife Robin Aguilar, Antonia and husband Daniel Marquez; many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

TAFOYA, Mary T. - Age 89, of Flint, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10AM Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Our Lady Of Guadalupe, G-2316 W. Coldwater Road, Flint. Fr. Timothy Nelson and Fr. Eduardo Lorenzo con-celebrating. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek from 1-9PM Friday and at church Saturday from 9AM until time of service. A vigil service will be held 7PM Friday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or Our Lady Of Guadalupe. Mary was born October 12, 1918, the daughter of William and Maria (Delgado) Beck in Mexico. She married Joseph Tafoya June 21, 1938 in Flint and he preceded her in death March 17, 1970. She had lived in Flint most of her life. Surviving are: 7 children, Robert Reyna of St. Helen and June Gates, Rose Tafoya of Flint, Olga Kleckner of Flint, Rudy Tafoya of Manistee, Mary Eagleson of Flint, Fred Tafoya of Flint and Rhonda Ureche, David Tafoya and wife Barb of Indian River; 2 daughters-in-law, Suzanne Beauchamp of Swartz Creek, Lorry Tafoya of Grand Blanc; son-in-law, James Kleckner of Swartz Creek; 23 grandchildren; many great- grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Lorenzo and Richard Tafoya; mother, Maria Flores; son-in-law, Don Eagleson; granddaughter, Heidi Tafoya; great- grandson, Corey Tafoya. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her grandson-in-law, Dr. Curtis Yapchai.

MARTINEZ, Pedro III (Petey) - Of Birch Run, age 1, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Hurley Medical Center. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place 1:00pm Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Flint, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Timothy A. Nelson will officiate with burial to follow in Lullaby Land at Flint Memorial Park. The family will gather at the funeral home for a private prayer service on Saturday morning, and go in procession to the church for service. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the family fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Pedro was born September 21, 2006 in Grand Blanc, Michigan, the first child of Pedro Martinez Jr. and Angel Marshall. Pedro enjoyed Spiderman, dancing, playing ball, chocolate, talking on the phone, playing with calculators, basketball which he affectionally called bad ball. He was a very busy child, a real tough boy, a true leader with a crooked smile and he loved the "Handy Manny" cartoon show, the movie Happy Feet, hanging out with his little brother and his many sisters. Pedro is survived by his father, Pedro Martinez, Jr. of Flint; mother, Angel Dianne Marshall of Birch Run; five sisters, Alejandra C. Molina, Arianna C. Aguilar, Selena M. Carder, Alexius E. Aguilar and Victoria L. Bond; three brothers, Esai Garcia, Sergio Garcia, and Francisco L. Martinez

LANDAAL, Thomas Green - Of Flint, age 53, went home to our Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at his home (aka Woodslea Inn) in the loving arms of his wife and family. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10AM Monday, December 10, 2007 at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 706 Beach Street in Flint, Father Frederick H. Taggert O.S.A. officiating. Cremation will take place following the Mass.


LANE, Patrick Thomas - Of Romulus, formerly of Flint, age 53, died Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12Noon Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2216 West Coldwater Road, Father Tim Nelson officiating. Cremation will take place following the Mass. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the family. Visitation 10AM Wednesday until the time Mass at the church. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Patrick was born in Flint, Michigan on September 21, 1953. The son of the late Robert and Eleanore (Duffing) Lane. On May 14, 1976 he married Irma "Mimi" Trujillo in Flint, Michigan. Patrick retired from Genesee County Community Mental Health. He enjoyed camping, reading and most of all his family. Surviving are wife, Irma; son, Thomas and wife Harmony; daughter, Jennifer and fiancé Brandon; brothers, Robert and wife Margaret, Peter and wife Margie; sister, Peggy and husband Wayne Coon; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

PENA, Dorothy M. - Of Flushing, formerly of Flint, age 96, died Tuesday, May 28, 2007 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 11AM Thursday, May 31, 2007 at the Crest wood Cemetery. Fr. Tim Nelson officiating. Burial at Crestwood Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church Building Fund. Visitation will be from 10AM - 11AM Thursday, May 31, 2007 at the Brown Funeral Home, Grand Blanc Chapel, 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc. Dorothy was born March 23, 1911 in Oneida, WI. She was a member of the Eagles Aeries 629 of Flint. She loved flowers and animals especially her dog, Renee. She was a very giving person to her Mexican boys. She is survived by her sister, Alfreda Bishop of St. Charles, MN; brother, Roy Kuehl of Milwaukee, WI; god-daughter, Rita (Rolando) Villarreal of Flushing; granddaughter, Olivia A. Villarreal and grandson, Vincent P, Villarreal; many nieces and nephews, special thanks to care givers, Lillie Miller, Karen Carpenter, Betty Segerstedt and Jean Tedford. Preceded in death by husband Oscar Pena, September 1998.

VASQUEZ, Rebeca "Ruby" - Of Flint, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at her sister Mary Alonzo's home surrounded by her nieces, nephews, friends, and family. Funeral services will be held 10AM on Friday, January 5, 2007 at the Brown Funeral Home, 1616 Davison Rd. with Father Timothy Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Cemetery. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for forty-four years. She worked for the Beecher School District and was a very loving wife and mother. He served in the U.S. Army. He married Sandra Fylling in 1964. Joseph was employed by GM Truck and Bus Plant for 30 years, retiring in 1995 and was a member of UAW Local #598. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking and vacationing up north. PEREZ, Adelia Molina - Age 86, of Flint Twp., went home to be with the Lord on September 6, 2006. Mrs. Perez was born April 12, 1920 in Peabody, Kansas, the daughter of Prudencio and Clara Barela Molina. She was a long time member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar Society and Misionero Guadalupano Society. Adelia enjoyed walking, knitting, crocheting, baking and sewing for her family. On December 2, 1939, Adelia married Ricardo Perez in Port Huron, MI and he survives her. She was a wonderful loving mother of four daughters, Virginia (Florentino) Flores, Alice (Pedro) Gonzalez, Lidia (Jose) Caballero, Esther Stewart; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sally Villareal and Delfina Torres. Apolonio was born April 10, 1923 in Kruppa, TX. He retired from Buick Motors as a Heavy Equipment Operator in 1982 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, was active in the choir, Holy Name Society, Caballeros de San Juan, Comite de Fiestas, Patrias and St. Vincent Society for many years. He was involved in the Cursillo Movement, volunteered for the Lansing Diocese to assist migrant workers. He established a restaurant with his eldest son, Cruz "La Gardenia", was instrumental in starting the Spanish Speaking Information Center, and was active in the Club Misionero at the church. He graduated from Mott Adult High School in 2003 at age 80. He married Josefa Gatica in 1944 in Texas. He is survived by his children, Cruz, Paul (Beth), Carmen Boyd, Janie (Richard) Karbowski, Jesusa (Pat) McDougall, Jose' (Mary), Augustin (Gabrielle), Mary Lou Cotterman, Ralph; 21 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Demetrio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josefa (Gatica) October 1986.

Mr. Guerra was born in Seguin, Texas, August 21, 1941, son of the late Felipe and Juanita (Montoya) Guerra. He married Goldie Doyle on October 29, 1966 in Flint. Juan proudly served in the US Army from May 1961 to May 1964. Juan attended St. Mary Catholic Church of Flint. He was a member of the Burton Eagles #3814, the Davison Knights of Columbus #4090 and the UAW Local #659. Juan worked as a crane operator for Chevrolet Metal Fabrication. He was a hard working man who loved and was truly dedicated to wife, children and grandchildren. Juan is survived by his wife, Goldie; daughters, Teresa (Ruben II) Vasquez, Lisa and Leslie Guerra and Carmen Lloyd; sons, David and Ronald Best; grandchildren, Alexis, Lewis and Shelby Best, Dominic and Anissa Vasquez, Sarah and Emily Ryder and Jaquez Best; brother, Alfredo (Zulema), Ignacio (Delores) Jose Guerra; sisters, Isabella (Ramon) and Julia (Donald) and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by sister, Dominga, and brothers, Raymundo, Refugio and Gilberto. Juan's family will truly miss hearing his laughter, seeing his smiles and will forever be thankful for his unselfish, giving ways.

AYALA, RubenGod commanded his angels to lift Ruben Ayala, 79, to his presence in his heavenly mansion on March 23, 2006 from Flint, MI. He was surrounded by the loving embraces of his family as he was called home. Born July 14, 1926 in Mexico City, Mexico DF to Loreto Alvarado and Ignacio Ayala. Father, grandfather and great-grandfather to the Ayala family of 30+ and extended families. Ruben married Maria Lopez in 1960 in San Benito, TX, to this union there were 7 children born, divorcing later. Ruben worked for Goodwill Industries until his retirement in 1988. Ruben retired to California, returning to Flint, MI in 2000 to be with his children. Ruben?s health was affected by complications due to his diabetes, he was brave to the end. Ruben loved his family, his Mexican heritage, reading, music, boxing, wood-working, working on autos and was a complete handyman. He taught many of these skills to his children. He fascinated everyone with his stories of his growing up in Mexico City. He instilled the importance of education to his children along with his strong character and moral skills. To our dad, family, sacrifice and being a hardworker was what Life was all about. Although a private person, who neither boasted nor complained, our "daddy" was a man who always reminded us "to work hard for what we wanted". The memories we have of our father will be with us forever. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him, but we rejoice in his eternal peace. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on February 17, at 11 AM. Rev. Cecilio Reyna (son) Pastor of St. Mary, Westphalia, officiating. Andrea was born on April 12, 1922 in Sabinas Hidalgo, NL, Mexico, the daughter of Cecilio and Maria Garza of Sabinas Hidalgo. Andrea moved to Flint from her beloved Mexico after marrying her husband Carlos on September 22, 1957. She grew to love this country greatly. She was a woman of great faith, strength, and joy. She loved roses, singing, praying, and practicing her faith. Andrea died one year to the day of arriving in Westphalia to live with her Son Fr. Cecilio. Surviving are: sister, Epijmenia Garza of Sabinas Hidalgo; 4 children, Carlos Reyna and wife Marlene of Flint, Maria Mata and husband Frank of Flint, Andrea Wolf and husband Bill of Flint, Rev. Cecilio Reyna of Westphalia, MI; 9 grandaughters, AnaLisa Reyna, Theresa Reyna, Carla and Clare Reyna, Jessica Mata, Jennifer Mata, Eleni Mata, Natalie and Christiana Wolf, all of Flint, and numerous nephews and nieces in Mexico. Preceded in death: Husband Carlos, brothers: Cecilio (Esperanza), Roberto (Gillermina) Jesus (Dora), Silverio (Marina) (Fe), Cecilio (7 months) Sisters: Maria (Melchoir) Guadalupe (Enrique), Olivia (Enrique), Pablo, (brother in law). The family is grateful to the people and ladies of Westphalia who loved and cared for her. GUERRERO, Mary Ernestina - Age 73, of Fenton, died Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral Mass will take place 10AM Saturday, December 31, 2005 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Eduardo Lorenzo and Rev. Fr. Tim Nelson will concelebrate, with burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home on Friday from 1-4 and 6-9PM and at the church on Saturday from 9AM until time of ser vice at 10AM. Family and parish will gather at the funeral home at 7PM Friday to pray the Rosary. HERNANDEZ, Sylvia Pulido - Age 63, of Flint, died November 9, 2005. She was born October 31, 1942 in Dilly, TX, the daughter of Rafael and Epifania (Barrera) Pulido. She married Estanislado "Tony" Hernandez in 1963 in Alice, TX. Sylvia was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Surviving are: husband, Estanislado "Tony"; daughter, Elisa Hernandez of Ferndale; son, Tanis Hernandez of Flint; mother, Epifania Pulido of Alice, TX; brothers, Frank (Lori) Pulido, Adan (Esmeralda) Pulido; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; brothers, Felix Elias Pulido, Rafael (Nelida) Pulido Jr.; sister, Adelida Rodriguez. VILLAREAL, Martin, died Thursday, October 6, 2005 at Genesys Hospice in Goodrich, MI. The body will be at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for viewing from 9-11AM on Monday, October 10, 2005 with the funeral Mass following. Mr. Estrello was born September 16, 1922 in Matehuala, S.L.P., Mexico to Francisco and Maria Estrello. He was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church and served in the Mexican military. He was employed by Flint Metal Center for 32 years and Central Wholesale for 30 years. Mr. Estrello was very proud of his family and loved his grandchildren. Surviving are: 1 son, Pedro (Suzanna) Estrello of Flint; 3 daughters, Aurora (James) Eggerton of Flint, Maria (Bill) Chambers of Tennessee and Rebecca (David) Foster of Flushing; 15 grandchildren, Dawn, Tracy, Gregory, Arthur, Joei, Ann, Pete Jr., Keith, Robert, Matthew, Pamela, Marcus, Debra, Autumn and Donald; 24 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren and 1 sister, Elodia (Pancho) Perez of S.L.P., Mexico. Mrs. Contreras was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and was active in the church's missionary efforts. Mrs. Contreras devoted her life to her family. She will be sadly missed by: her husband, Jose of Flint; son, Jose L. and wife, Michelle of Flint; two daughters, Nora E. and husband, Dennis Andreski of Shelby Twp., Diana N. Contreras of Flint; five grandchildren, Jessica, Sarah, and Kyle Contreras, Tayler Sweeney, Sawyer Andreski; three great-grandchildren, Jazmin Thomas, Jakolby and Isaiah Hussey; brother, Roberto Morales and wife, Barbara of Otisville; three sisters, Blanca and husband, Theodore Garza of Dallas, TX, Irma Morales of Mexico, Annabella Morales of Flint; many nieces and nephews. Serena was born Aug. 29, 1915, in Dubuque, to August ?Gus? and Magdalena ?Lena? (Stoffell) Kemp. Serena graduated from the former Visitation Academy and the former Bayless Business School, both in Dubuque. She married Judge Thomas H. Nelson on Aug. 9, 1948, in Notre Dame, Ind. He passed away May 27, 1997. She is survived by four sons, Dr. Peter J. (Dr. Mary) Nelson of La Crosse, Patrick M. Nelson of Milwaukee, Fr. Timothy A. Nelson of Flint, Michigan, Andrew A. (Nancy) Nelson of Decorah, Iowa; one daughter, Laura M. (David) Steffens of Big Rapids, Mich.; grandchildren, Andrew and Susan Nelson, Sarah and Nicholas Nelson, Ellen and Michael Steffens. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a son, Thomas M. Nelson; a daughter, Mary W. Nelson; brothers, Raymond, Louis, and a brother in infancy; and a sister, Melicent Kemp.

L., Mexico on September 22, 1957.

CABALLERO, Herlinda "Linda" - Age 63, of Detroit, MI, formerly of Flint died Thursday, November 11, 2004 at Detroit Receiving Hospital. A Funeral Mass will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Herlinda was born January 27, 1941 in San Antonio, TX, the daughter of Francisco B. and Tomasa (Garcia) Molina. She married Felix R. Caballero in 1964.
