Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rusk, Texas, is currently a mission of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Jacksonville, TX, serving the Catholic community of southern Cherokee County in Texas in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tyler, Texas.  The orginal Sacred Heart Catholic Church was founded in 1906 as part of the Diocese of Galveston and was served by the Missionaries of LaSalette out of Sacred Heart Church in Nacogdoches.  Regular services at the mission church were suppressed in 1945.  The Catholic presence in Rusk continued until 1974 when the Diocese of Beaumont, which had assumed jurisdiction in 1966, sold the church building and property.  The current mission church, re-dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, was revived in 1995.  Sunday Masses were celebrated at a shared facility on Sycamore Street. and .  The community is located at 760 South Main Street and moved into its current facilities south of the city in 1999.   Fr. Stephen Duyka currently serves as administrator/pastor.

The Elect is initiated at the Easter Vigil

Our Elect, Nicky Rigsby, was received into the Catholic Church through the reception of the Easter Sacraments--Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist--at the Easter Vigil on Saturday, April 23rd.
