Dual Credit for High School and College |
Hello! I am forwarding the following message that was sent to Colleen Milburn regarding college credit courses for your teens. Colleen met this lady and spoke highly of her. Have a great weekend! Sarah Colleen, I spoke with you and Madelyn Twyman at MidKnight Stakes Saturday night regarding the dual credit opportunities for high school juniors and seniors at Bluegrass Community & Technical College (formerly LCC and Central KY Technical College). You can find more information about this on our website at www.bluegrass.kctcs.edu/OpportunityCollege. Just to give you a brief overview, our college has courses for high school students available through our Opportunity College program. These courses are open to high school juniors and seniors and are available in transferable general education courses that count towards a degree (ENG 101 Writing I, MA 109 College Algebra, History, Psychology, etc.) and technical education courses (such as Information Technology, Carpentry,etc.). The technical education courses for high school students are available primarily at the Centers for Technology (such as Eastside and Southside). Anyway, many of the home schooled students who take the transferable general education courses get them approved not only for college credit but high school graduation credit too. (This makes it dual credit) Students may take two courses per semester initially on any of our campuses (we have 3 in Lexington) at any time of the day, evening or weekend and even online. We have fall, spring and summer courses available. To enroll, students need to submit the following to me: 1) College application Students can schedule an advising appointment with me to register for courses. Advance registration for summer and fall semesters begins March 26th. I hope this information helps. If you would like me to mail you an application packet, please send me your mailing address. Let me know if you have questions. Thanks, Rebecca Rebecca Simms
2) Official high school transcript
3) ACT or SAT scores (if no scores are available, students may schedule the COMPASS exam in our Assessment Center. This test is very similar to the ACT since it was developed by the ACT folks and it is an online exam so students receive immediate results when they complete the test)
4) Letter of recommendation (from high school guidance counselor, teacher, or other administrator)
