St. Sebastian School at 307 Siebert Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237-2819 US - Learning to Live a Life of Service
| Learning to Live a Life of Service |
Saint Sebastian School provides an environment that encourages service to others. Students learn daily that they are called to be a living witness to God’s love, to live responsibly in a community with others and to make the world a better place. All grade levels participate in service projects throughout the year, including food and clothing drives, collecting fuzzy slippers for hospitalized children, preparing care packages for troops, and making cards for homebound parishioners, to name just a few. Additionally almost 1000 personal cleaning kits were prepared and distributed to the street homeless at downtown shelters such as Light of Life Rescue Mission and Operation Safety Net.
St. Sebastian School students raised more than $2,400 in their Change for Chimbote campaign. The donated funds support The Chimbote Foundation through the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The Chimbote Foundation is a diocesan organization dedicated to its mission city of Chimbote, Peru where it maintains and staffs a medical clinic for the poor and orphaned children and families of the town. The campaign was a seventh grade service project.

Another successful project is Warm Bodies Warm Hearts. Over the past five years, approximately 5000 coats, blankets, hats, gloves, scarves and other clothing items have been distributed to those in need in our Pittsburgh community. The St. Sebastian School and CCD 6th graders, coordinated by Mrs. Ann Sennott, partner with Father Tom Sparacino. Father Tom is a former parochial vicar at St. Sebastian's and now he works with the homeless and those of little means in the Mon-Yough Valley area.
The students also raised $1,000 to support the Fallen Heroes Fund. The check was presented to local police officers in a special ceremony honoring their service to the community.
Through the fourth grade bake sale service project, more than $800 was collected for Children’s Hospital. With the raised funds, toys and other items from the hospital’s wish list were purchased and delivered to the patients. The fourth grade students wrapped the gifts and made personalized get well cards.
St. Sebastian students are constantly learning to care for those less fortunate. You can help too! Please pray that those who are homeless will find shelter, and that each of God's children will be able to live with dignity and peace. Financial donations can be sent to the school to the attention of Mrs. Ann Sennott, PTG Service Coordinator.
