SCHOOL LUNCH
We take great pride in the quality of food served in our school cafeteria. All of our foods are made in the cafeteria. We do not purchase prepared foods. Each day there is a main entrée with the option of three (3) different alternative choices which are: Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Turkey Sandwich or fruit flavored or vanilla yogurt w/wo fruit topping. In addition, fresh salad, carrot, cucumber and/or celery dishes w/Ranch Dressing are offered. Depending on the main entrée offered, there could also be a choice of a starch (rice, noodles) and hot vegetable. Lastly, but not least, we offer a choice of three (3) different fresh or canned fruits. A detailed menu will be posted on the website monthly.
The cost for lunch at St. Sebastian School for 2009-2010 is unchanged from the previous year:
Grades 4-8 $2.25
Second sandwiches, pizza and other main entrées will be $ .50
Seconds of all other items - fruit, pasta, potatoes, etc will be $ .15
Seconds of milk / juice will be $ .45
Please remember, volunteers help us to keep our lunch costs as low as possible.

All of our cereals, bread and Pop-Tarts are whole grain items. WHAT IS A REIMBURSEABLE MEAL?
A reimbursable meal is one which includes three (3) of the five (5) main components of those required by the National School Lunch Program - they are: Protein (meats, cheese, eggs, yogurt, etc), milk, veggies, fruit and a starch (bread, rice, pasta). Potatoes are considered a vegetable – not a starch. If a student has three of these five components, St. Sebastian’s receives a reimbursement from the State. These funds are VITAL to our lunch program.

PARENTS' ROLE IN STUDENTS' LUNCH CHOICES
Please encourage your student to take part in fruits and veggies. We offer a wide variety. We do not want them to take more than they will eat, but they need to make wise choices. Parents may also place restrictrictions on their students' account. We cannot manage requests such as “grilled cheese only twice a week” as this would be tedious. However, if you do not want your child to have a second sandwich (usually only 5-8 grades request this) or a second milk – this can be notated on individual accounts. Please send a written request to my attention: Betty Kreutzer – Cafeteria

We participate in the government FREE and REDUCED PRICE LUNCH PROGRAM. All students’ names will be processed through the PA State program called COMPASS. This system forwards a report of any student eligible for Free lunches due to the parents eligibility for Food Stamps. If the student is on this list, application for Free lunch is not required. The forms to be completed and income information will be sent to each household the first week of school. If you believe that you are eligible, PLEASE return the form as soon as possible. The information will be handled in STRICT confidentiality and processed quickly. The Free/Reduced status will become effective on the date approved and will be in effect until October 15, 2010. If your household was qualified for Free/Reduced last year, the approval is effective until October 15, 2009.

Every FAMILY has an account that can be accessed at each meal – THIS WILL BE KNOWN AS THE HOUSEHOLD ACCOUNT.. The account Will be in the name of the YOUNGEST sibling. This is a DEBIT system – NOT A CHARGE ACCOUNT. It allows for regular “Deposits to Account” on a daily, weekly or monthly basis (whenever you choose). The funds are drawn down as the student/students purchase breakfast and/or lunch. There are NO lunch tickets and cash is not accepted at time of purchase (except for individual milk purchase).

How are Students Identified at the POS?
Each student will have a “print” of certain points on one of their fingers. This is not a “fingerprint” and could not be of use to any outside agency. As the student goes through the checkout, they place their finger on a pad and their individual account is accessed. Their lunch entrée is selected and automatically deducted from the “Household Account”.

VOLUNTEERS
Our lunch program could not exist without the help of the many volunteers. You are such a blessing to our staff. Your cafeteria fee of $100 is easy to recoup by volunteering in the cafeteria. The hours are flexible: 12 two hour shifts, 8 three hour shifts, OR 6 four hour shifts. The choice is yours. Give exact dates, days, or let us choose by complete the volunteer form and indicating how your family can participate.
Without the wonderful mothers, fathers, grandparents, (YES, they can come in your place) our cafeteria could not exist. Since we prepare all of our entrées from scratch, we do need help. Please consider this opportunity to meet other parents, etc. and to see just how the cafeteria operates. Hope to see and / or meet you soon.

Allergies and Special Needs
We want to make sure that every child's nutritional health needs are met. Our cafeteria is now Peanut free. With an increased awarenes of the allergy to nuts and an increase in the number of students with this allergy, the cafeteria will no longer serve peanut butter. Also, parents are requested to avoid packing peanut butter or any nut products in packed lunches. If your child has a food allergy or special dietary requirement, please notify the cafeteria in writing and attach a doctor's note. These notices should be renewed every school year.
