A History of the C.C.D.
In the Church a fraternity, or specifically a confraternity or archconfraternity, is a special association of the faithful for the promotion of special works of Christian charity or piety.  They are sometimes called sodalities or pious unions, however, the latter have simpler rules than confraternities though the line of demarcation is not always clear.  It is unknown to most Catholics that every parish in fact has an archconfraternity within the parish.  This is because it is almost always referred to by its initialism, namely the C.C.D....
