Happy Thanksgiving
Words are powerful— and I don’t think there are any two words with more magic power than to say “Thank You”. A “Thank You” to God or to people who go out of their way for us. Who keep the doors open and the relationship well oiled. We might even say “Thank You” for the difficult lessons that life sometimes hands out to us, though we may do so unwillingly and under protest. My prayer for you this Thanksgiving Day is that we will spend it enjoying turkey and watching football games perhaps, but also that we will give thanks for all of our many blessings. The fourth Thursday of November should not be the only day of thanksgiving for us. Every day should be a thanksgiving day.
I invite you to make a list of those persons and those things for which you are thankful. See if you can think of at least twenty gifts, persons or things that make your life easier. Then take a few minutes to thank God for all these gifts you have been given and ask God for the grace to more and more appreciate what you have received. They may include health, life itself, our work, the ones we care for, the ones who care for us, our friends, our faith, the many gifts God gives us every day, our spiritual life, the Holy Eucharist. And may we reserve a special thank you to the Lord for the gift of the community of St. Ambrose, which is beyond doubt a light in our world and in our community here in Deerfield Beach.
Thanksgiving Prayer
This Thanksgiving let those of us who have much and those who have little gather at the welcoming table of the Lord. At this blessed feast, may rich and poor alike remember that we are called to serve one another and to walk together in God's gracious world. With thankful hearts we praise our God who like a loving parent denies us no good thing.
Today and every day, it pleases God for us to sit as brothers and sisters as we share the bounty of the earth and the grace God has placed in each blessed soul. For this we all give thanks and praise to our loving and gracious God. Amen.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving Day, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to our Priests, Teachers, Lay Ministers—in school and C.C.D., to Parish and School Staff, Workers Volunteers, and indeed to all who contribute in any way to the well being of our parish family, be it by their encouragement, their concern, their time, talent, treasure or their prayers.
And last but not least, I thank God for all of you. May the Good Lord bless you and your families on this Thanksgiving Day and may the spirit of giving and sharing that first made this day possible ever remain alive in our midst.
Have a wonderful week and a blessed Thanksgiving. I hope to see you at our special Thanksgiving Day Mass at 11:00 am. Remember, the most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling; and even more beautiful is knowing that you are the reason behind it!!!!
All are cordially invited to gather for a special: MASS OF THANKSGIVING to be celebrated Thursday, November 26th at 11:00 a.m. in the Church.
Distribution of bread will be given immediately following the Mass. We welcome all parishioners to join us for this special celebration as we praise and thank God for all our blessings.
The Rectory Office will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26 in observance of Thanksgiving Day.
The office will re-open on Friday, Nov. 27 at 8:00 am. The Priests and staff of St. Ambrose wish everyone a blessed and safe Thanksgiving.

Pastor’s Musings
A four-year-old boy was asked to give thanks before Thanksgiving dinner. The family members bowed their heads in expectation. He began his prayer by thanking God for all his friends, naming them one by one. Then he thanked God for Mommy, Daddy, Brother, sister, Grandma, Grandpa and all his aunts & uncles. Finally, he began to thank God for the food. He gave thanks for the turkey, the dressing, the fruit salad, the cranberry sauce, the pies, the cakes, even the Cool Whip. Then he paused, and everyone waited and waited. After a long silence, the young fellow looked up at his mother with a concerned look and asked, “If I thank God for the broccoli, won’t He know that I’m lying?”

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE
It’s that time of year again when we ask you to help us make Thanksgiving possible for those who are less fortunate. Donations of Publix and Winn Dixie food gift certificates as well as food donations to fill food baskets for those in need will be greatly appreciated. We will be collecting the gift certificates, food and turkeys for distribution the week of thanksgiving. Please drop your all donations off at the Rectory Office. And please, don’t forget the Poor Boxes. This time of year the need is even greater for those in need. Thank you and God Bless you for caring and sharing.
Message from Father Peterman
The time has come.
The day has dawned.
The fields are filling with combines.
The corn harvest has arrived here in Central Illinois.
The world around me may change.
Day by day I continue to take my cancer chemo pills.

The pages of American history portray Thanksgiving, 1621, as a gathering of Pilgrim and Indian families offering thanks to God. They prepared and shared that first Thanksgiving dinner. This special day, however, did not become an established holiday until George Washington's Proclamation in 1789. Even then, Thanksgiving did not become the celebration and holiday that we know today. We set aside this day to think about our blessings and to thank God for all that we have been given. It is a day when families and extended families gather together to share food, good company, and prayer.
A THANKSGIVING PRAYER
On Thanksgiving Day, dear Lord,
Our thanks are most sincere
For all the blessings you bestowed
Throughout the passing year.
For health, for work, for special joys
For family and for friends
And for our nation under God,
Your goodness never ends!
But help us understand, dear Lord,
And may we clearly see
That just one day is not enough
To thank you properly.
And that our thanks today are small
For gifts that you outpour,
Unless we've thanked you other days.....
Three hundred sixty-four!
We extend to all our parents, students, and friends our best wishes for a blessed and bountiful Thanksgiving celebration. It is our hope and prayer that everyone enjoy a wonderful holiday and look forward to the beginning of the holy season of Advent.

RCIA—Rite of Christian Initiation Adults The Rite of Christian Initiation Adults, is a process whereby an individual becomes a full member of the Catholic church. Those making this journey come from a variety of backgrounds: some have been baptized, some haven’t; some come from other Christian churches, and some may be Catholics who have decided to complete their initiation into the Church. Whatever their background, all are experiencing the call of God and share in a common spiritual journey. The RCIA as practiced today finds its origin in the once customary rituals of the early Church by which people were prepared for the reception of Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, and full initiation into the Christian community. After an absence of several hundred years in Church history, the Second Vatican Council reinstated these ancient rites. The RCIA journey calls for a serious look at one’s life under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Witnessing this journey challenges us as a community to examine our motives and deepen our own lives through the example of our new members. It is the whole community of Christ who welcomes those responding to God’s call, and in doing so, answers its own call to build up the Body of Christ on earth. Anyone who is interested is invited to join us on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of our Church.
