St. Augustine Diocesan Council of Catholic Women at 6501 Waltho Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32277 US - South Jax Deanery

South Jax Deanery

Our theme this year (2008 - 2009) is One Body…Many Parts.  Our ladies of the South Jacksonville Deanery are truly AWESOME!  I am humbled whenever I think of what we do.  Our affiliations have each participated in their own events then coming together to help with the overall diocesan events.  We show how “One Body…Many Parts” works.  We have logged in more than 90,000 volunteer hours.  We each gave of our time, our talent and our treasures.

With our Family Commission, we have rosary meetings and novenas, teach PREP classes, provide meals for funerals, sing in the choirs, Mother/Daughter Communion breakfasts, Father/Son Communion breakfasts/ May crowning and holiday get togethers.  We help our youth groups, help with 1st Holy Communion and Confirmation.  We participate in the Anniversary Mass.  We join the pro-life marches and pray at abortion clinics.  We help with receptions at church, play bunco and visit nursing homes.  We help with our thrift stores and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Internationally we help with the Dominga Bocca orphanage in Guayaquil, Ecuador and an orphanage in Jamaica.  For our own deanery project, Women of Hope in Afghanistan, we are looking at ways to help these women. We also host an Epiphany party for the migrant workers.

We responded legislatively by working on pro-life issues.  We encouraged people to register to vote.

We helped our community by having parties for our senior citizens, participated in meals-on-wheels, visited nursing homes, rang the bells for the Salvation Army at Christmas, gathered baby items for the Women’s Help Center, aided the American Red Cross, collected gifts for retirement homes for the holidays, donated to soup kitchens and many other programs.

We encouraged ladies of our parishes to join the Council of Catholic Women.  We advertised our meetings in the bulletins, published monthly newsletters and advertised with the Queen of Peace radio station.  We participated in ministry fairs and celebrated Council Sunday.

I am humbled by the works the ladies of the South Jacksonville Deanery.  We truly show how “One Body…Many Parts” works.
