Infant Tip-Sheet for Infant Baptism
We are happy that you want your child to be part of the Roman Catholic Church Family! Baptism is the first sacrament that welcomes a child or an adult into the faith. By choosing to have your child baptized, you are making a commitment to raise this child in the faith and commit to participating in your parish’s life through education, service and worship. Baptism is a commitment to live as a disciple of Christ and follow in Christ’s footsteps. This sacrament and moment in the life of a child is not entered into lightly. One must pray and think about the responsibilities of living the Christian Life.
All those children until the age of 7 are eligible to be baptized into the Roman Catholic Church. (Those 7 and older are part of the process to become Catholic that is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children where those 7 to 18 are baptized, confirmed and receive their First Communion at one ceremony, usually during the Easter Vigil.) Parents and Godparents receive baptismal class instruction on the First Sunday of each month at 12:30 p.m. in the Committee Room The class is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
