Fraternal Organization with Devotion to Family and Charitable Outreach |
It has always been the intent of our Knights of Columbus Council to one day honor our founder by naming our council after him. Knights of Columbus supreme bylaws do not allow any council to be named after a living person, so with his passing in 2004 we set the wheels in motion and now it is official. Msgr. Doody was pastor of St. Ed’s from 1979 to 1989, became a Monsignor in 1984, and formed 32 willing men into our council in January, 1988. we now have 137 members. He became a knight in 1936, was ordained in 1942, and served with distinction in WWII and Korea. St Edward’s parishioners loved him, especially the children. He encouraged devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph. He was an ever-present comfort whenever it was needed in times of trouble. The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal service organization, with a devotion to family life and charitable outreach to our community. Although Knights can be found assisting in many different causes, Pro-Life, Family Life, Catholic Education and Mentally Challenged issues are emphasized. Knights of Columbus also provides our members with additional security through our nationally recognized life insurance program. Our 1.5 million members and their families are dedicated to the ideals of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. We work to benefit our communities, Church, and fellow man. In the past ten years Knights have worked effectively on programs to benefit mentally challenged people and countless others in need, donating more than $867 million and providing more than 340 million hours of volunteer community service. At St. Edward we are involved with fish frys and pancake breakfasts. We have cooked at parish picnics and festivals, and we have volunteered our services for numerous other St. Edward functions, from grounds clean-up and landscaping to kitchen help. We donated the crosses at the cemetery and in front of our church commemorating aborted children. We have funded various Eagle Scout projects, including the restoration of the bell, and the project for building benches, landscaping, and installing electric for the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. We also provide food service for Lake County Parks Department events of Buckley Homestead, Stoney Run, and Lemon Lake Parks. Join us on the St. Edward Council. Our members range in age from 18-75, some single, some married. Our coucil builds fellowship as we express our faith in charitable works and fundraisers. Our delicious "Fish Fries" have supported our parish and school, and our national "Tootsie Roll" appeal supports mentally challenged in our community. The Knights of Columbus meet every 2nd Thursday at 8:00 pm at the
