The St. James Respect Life Committee would like to bring your attention to the following:
Right in our neighborhood, a few miles from here, there is a medical building where they perform abortions. It's at 2500 Nesconset Highway, building #8, next to Burger King. The Respect LIfe Committee is asking you to join them in prayer for an end to abortion. Films are available showing how babies are aborted. Babies who are aborted die a eath more horrendous than you could ever imagine. Our committee has videos of abortions if you wish to see for yourself.
You can make a difference by joining us at our bimonthly vigils. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month from 8am to 10am, rain or shine. Please join us in a peaceful, prayerful and nonviolent manner. All the information you need regarding our vigil work can be found on the bulletin boards in the church vestibules. There is a power in numbers and we have seen people approach building #8, and then drive away. Only God knows how many babies we have saved through our efforts.
Any amount of time you could donate to help save God's precious children is greatly appreciated. Please continue to pray for an end to abortion.
Pro-Life Prayer
Heavenly Father, please guide us as we try to bring an end to abortion. We especially pray for those who may currently be considering to have an abortion, those who perform abortions, and those who promote these procedures. In addition, please direct our elected officials and judges and all people in the legal, medical, communication, education, and ministry professions to be dedicated to protecting the lives of unborn children. Father, send your spirit to enlighten all Christians of their duty to defend the sanctity of human life from conception until natural death but also help us realize that violence is not your way to end abortion. Please guide us in your ways. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Respect Life Committee of St. James Parish supports the principles outlined in the encyclical of Pope John Paul II, the Gospel of Life, in many different ways. We work to give Catholics a choice of activities, consistent with their personalities and skills, to counter the culture of death that permeates our society.
For example, some of our committee members protest peacefully and prayerfully on two Saturdays each month outside a medical park in Stony Brook where abortions are performed. Our committee actively supports the work of crisis pregnancy centers like the Life Center of Deer Park and Birthright organizations through fundraising and volunteer actions. Many members and interested parishioners to participate in the monthly diocesan march for Life sponsored by different parishes throughout the year.
The committee has created and maintains a library of pro-life videos that can be found in the religious eduction office. Written comments by committee members, give the viewer information as to the content and age appropriateness of each film. There are videos for all age groups that can be borrowed for personal use in C.C.D. classes. In addition, we raise funds to help our parish pay for a weekly ad in the Stony Brook Statesman alerting young women facing a crisis pregnancy where they might go for help. This is a joint effort with the parishes of St. Philip and James and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
We are also active members in the Long Island Coalition for Life and send representatives to the monthly meeting of that group. Under the auspices of this organization and the Office of Family Ministry of the diocese, some of our committee members engage in public speaking bringing the pro-life message to high schools and colleges across Long Island. We are willing to provide speakers who will defend the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death for any group willing to sponsor a discussion of life issues.
Last year the Respect Life Committee supported the Knights of Columbus drive to establish a Rachel stone monument in our parish cemetery. This beautiful monument with stone benches provides a place for those who have lost unborn children, through abortion, miscarriage, or stillbirth, to seek consolation. Each year the committee also supports a spiritual adoption program where parishioners are encouraged to adopt an unborn baby and to pray that the unborn baby may be given the chance to live. We also participate in the National Night of Prayer for Life held each year on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, our commitee and interested parishioners join together in the church for an evening of prayer from 9pm to 1am, and members participate in the Nocturnal Adoration on the First Friday of each month.
Our committee meets the first Thursday of each month at eight o'clock in the Religious Education Office. All are welcome.
