The focus of the Adult Studies ministry at St. Mark is to provide catechetical, spiritual, and practical education for Catholic Adults. We spend two hours a week (on Friday night) in an interactive classroom environment. The format is generally a lecture-presentation with class participation. Materials for study are drawn from the Magisterium of the church, with the intention of presenting them in the most objective manner possible. While this may sound rather formal, we are really more like a Christian Community than we are a class. Plenty of time is given to allow everyone present to share their experiences and understanding of the topics at hand, current events, and even personal & pressing matters in our lives. The Adult Studies ministry at St. Mark began shortly after the publication of Joh Paul II's Encyclical letter "Ecclesia de Eucharistia" in April of 2003. With the approval of the Diocese of El Paso and the blessings of our pastor Fr. Leo Rivero, we embarked on a detailed study of "Ecclesia de Eucharistia". Continuing our ministry, we started an in-depth study of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This provides the foundation of our studies. In our study of Part I of the Catechism, we noticed a prevalence of references to "Dei Verbum", the Dogmatic Constitution of Vatican II on Divine Revelation. So, we took a side-trip from the CCC, and brough "Dei Verbum" to the table. Since then, we have added to our repertoire with such studies as:
* The Church's Doctrine on Purgatory
* Deus Caritas Est (Benedict XVI)
* Sacramentum Caritatis (Benedict XVI)
* Summorum Pontificum (Benedict XVI)
* The letter from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith titled "Responses to some Questions Regarding Certain Aspects of the Doctrine of the Church"
