St. Mary Cathedral, Lansing at 219 Seymour, Lansing, MI 48933 US - Fr. Bernard Reilly

Fr. Bernard Reilly

Fr. Bernard Reilly
I am the second son of Ben and Marge Reilly who are both deceased.  My older borther, Charlie, and his family (wife, Tricia; son, Patrick; daughter, Megan) live in Chesterfield, VA, a suburb of Richmond, VA.

I grew up in Jackson, MI and went off to the seminary in 1963 following graduation.  I was ordained here, at the Cathedral, in 1973, and have served in various parishes over these last 36 years.  I look forward to serving here at St. Mary and certainly feel it is quite an honor to be asked to do so by Bishop Boyea.

I am quite excited about being here especially at this time as the merger between Holy Cross and St. Mary is realized.  When I left St. Mary in Jackson, we had been going through a merger with St. Stanislaus Kostka Chapel as they joined our site.  It had been going for about eight months and I was beginning to see the good growth that was developing.  My move meant that I would not be able to see them through to the fullest experience of the the union, but it also meant that I would be able to be here to join all of you in this historic effort..

What I have been particularly struck by is Fr. Jeff's verbal image of St. Mary at the foot of the Holy Cross as he wrote about it in last weekend's bulletin.  (See Fr. Jeffrey Njus article in About Us)  One thing the image strikes up in me is that even though we don't have that representation in the sanctuary any longer, perhaps we make it come to life by showing how naturally we all really do fit together.

Until then, may Christ's peace reign in your hearts...

Fr. B

Effective July 1, 2009, Fr. Bernard Reilly became the rector of St. Mary Cathedral.
