To become a member, just join us for a regular meeting. Why would I want to be a part of St. Mary's Youth Group? First of all, if you're Catholic and your family belongs to St. Mary Star of the Sea, you already are a member of a great church. Once you are confirmed, you have an awesome opportunity to make sure your faith not only survives, but thrives! We take that responsibility very seriously, and we have a lot of fun doing it! Here's how: COMMUNITY SERVICE Lent & Advent Giving Trees: We're the ones who decorate those ornament and egg filled trees in Church during Advent and Lent. We help the St. Vincent de Paul volunteers collect food for the poor. 10-Week Raffle: Weekly raffle drawings are held for a ten week period. Your ticket is put back into the mix and can be redrawn any number of times. Each week, there is a $100 winner and fifteen $20 winners. This fundraiser helps with the cost of mission trips and other Youth Group activities. December Cookie Bake: We bake Christmas cookies in December and deliver them to the Jackson Interfaith Shelter. Christmas Eve Youth Mass: We supply the lectors and ushers at this Mass. Mass & A Meal: We cook and serve a meal at different times during the year for our parishioners. We don't charge them. We want them to come and get to know each other! Mission Trip: We take our community service out into the world community. In past years, we went to Washington, DC doing whatever needed to be done when we got there! We could be helping in a hospital or homeless shelter, or be building a home or shelter, but whatever task is given to us we know we'll be helping in God's work. Sometimes you don't know what you'll be doing on a mission trip. One year we worked in a daycare center for low income families and at a construction site building affordable housing.
