St. Mary's 150th Anniversary year-long celebration is underway!

Parish Family Thanksgiving Dinner!
In honor of our Sesquicentennial Celebration year, Sunday, November 22nd marks the reinstatement of St. Mary's Parish Family Thanksgiving Dinner.  The event used to be held on the Sunday before Thanksgiving and was meant to give parishioners a chance to gather as a parish family to give thanks and celebrate the season.  This year we will gather in the Parish Hall at 3:00 pm.  Please R.S.V.P. on one of the sign-up sheets in the vestibule or in the Parish Hall so we know how many turkeys to cook.  Let us know what side dish or dessert you'll be bringing and please include your recipes for our upcoming anniversary cookbook!

Many Thanks!

To Sue Edgette for her expert coordination of the Parish Family Pictoral Directory Portrait scheduling and sessions!  We can't wait to see the finished product!

Our 150th Anniversary kickoff weekend was a major success!  There are many St. Mary's parishioners to thank for the wonderful start to our Jubilee Year.

Click on Many Thanks to read the notes of appreciation from Anne-Marie Marivoet, the chairman of our St. Mary's Picnic committee and Shannon McCall, our 150th Anniversary committee chairman.

the Mass on Saturday, September 19, 2009 contained special 150th Anniversary elements.  Refer to 2010 Anniversary Kickoff to view the program from our 150th Anniversary Kickoff Mass.

Barb Kelly and Shannon McCall are still collecting recipes for inclusion into the St. Mary's 150th Anniversary cookbook.  Special recipe forms are available in the back of the church, or you may download a form for printing by clicking on Recipe Form here.

Sesquicentennial Snipits...

In 1860, Bishop John McGill, Bishop of Richmond, and Col. Rene E. De Russy, representing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, signed an agreement on June 6, that, with the permission of President Abraham Lincoln, authorized the construction of a Catholic Church on Fort Monroe.

A new 1300 square foot parish hall was completed in 1989 under the leadership of Rev. Charles W. Brickner.  Because the rectory is considered a historic building, the project needed approval from the National Register of Historic Places.
