St. Mary School of Rockwood at 32447 Church St., Rockwood, MI 48173 US - Kindergarten

Kindergarten

Welcome to our classroom! The Kindergarten program is designed to allow children to develop academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually through direct instruction, “hands-on” learning experiences, group and individual activities, religious education and play. The curriculum incorporates the Michigan grade level objectives for Kindergarten, presented in a nurturing environment which acknowledges individual differences and learning styles, and promotes a positive school experience for all children. As the school year progresses, students interact with their teachers and peers, working to become independent learners and acquiring the skills needed for a successful transition to first grade. If you have any questions about the information on our web page, please feel free to contact me via email at taschlerb@catholicweb.com.

Classroom News

October is a very busy month!  We will be making “Leaf-Print Sweatshirts” on Thursday, October 22, and we are looking for one or two more parents to help paint them with the students.  If you would like to help out, please let me know.  Remember that all sweatshirts are due by Wednesday, October 21!

I would like to thank all families that were able to donate towards the auction gift.  If you have not donated yet and would still like to, please send in your donation with your child and I will pass it along to the auction committee.  Any help you can give is greatly appreciated!  Our class is sponsoring the “Baking Basket” that will be auctioned or raffled off the night of the auction, November 13.  Consider attending this year if you are able—it is always a great time!

Earlier in October, the Rockwood Fire Department came to our school to discuss fire safety and to demonstrate to our students how a firefighter looks when he is fighting a fire.  The students were also able to see all of the emergency equipment close up.  During this month, we will be discussing fire safety both at school and at home.  We have already had practice and official fire drills!  Please discuss with your child your family’s evacuation plan, meeting spot, and any other home safety procedures.

Our Halloween party will be on Wednesday, October 28, this year.  Because there is no school on October 29 and 30, we will not be participating in Rockwood Fire Department’s Parade.  The party will be in the afternoon, but students should NOT come dressed in costumes to school.  Please send in your child’s costume separately and we will change later in the day.  Any parents that would like to attend certainly may, but I will send more exact times later in the month.  We plan on dressing up, showing off our costumes and talking about each one, then eating, and playing a pumpkin game.  I will be contacting those parents that signed up to help out for the Halloween party and letting them know the things I will need for that day.

Reminders
  • Gym shoes are required for Tuesday’s physical education class.  Church attire is expected on Thursdays—please see the Dress Code for any particulars.  Spirit Day dress code has moved to Tuedays.

  • At the end of each week a “Kindergarten Daily News” paper is sent home.  This serves two purposes:  to provide reading material that each child has had practice reading during class time and to update parents on what is going on in class.  Please take the time to read through with your child.

  • “Book-It” begins in November this year.  Please return the form as soonas you complete it, so that your child is rewarded promptly and other students are encouraged to finish theirs.

  • Remember to sign your child’s cube chart at the end of each week.  This is the best method to keep parents informed of their child’s daily behavior.

Dates to Remember
  • October 22 - Leaf-Print Sweatshirts
  • October 28 - Halloween Party
